Bleeding at 13 weeks

Hello,

I have literally just had my dating scan today and everything was fine! (Measuring at 13 weeks exactly). But this evening I went to the toilet and passed a large red clot (it was like a flat jelly disc, slightly larger than a 50p). I have had very mild cramps in my abdomen all day but they seem to have stopped and I currently have mild low back ache. Neither are painful enough to be concerning at the moment.

I did just call the maternity assessment line and they said that as an isolated event there’s probably nothing to worry about but to monitor my bleeding and call back if it continues or gets worse. Of course I am worrying though. I know bleeding in pregnancy can be normal but I haven’t had any so far, so really wasn’t expecting to see this, especially after the positive scan today!

If anyone has any words of reassurance, I’d be grateful if you could send them my way please! xxx

Hey my lovely.

I had bleeding on and off from 5 weeks and passed some fairly sized clots too, every time I panicked so much. It was described as an area of bleed/hematoma. I’m now 35 weeks and although won’t fully relax until my little one is here my bleeding stopped and all continued as it should.

I hope it’s similar for you, I believe bleeding is more common in ivf pregnancies!

Best of luck ♥️

Thanks Woody and congrats on being 35 weeks!

I am hoping it was just a haematoma. The sonographer did point one or two out on my 7 week scan but then at 10 weeks I’m sure she said they weren’t there anymore/had been reabsorbed. I’ve heard the same about haematomas and ivf but interestingly, this was a surprise natural pregnancy following failed ivf. I wonder what the science is behind them being more common in ivf.

The bleeding has slowed down today and is darker blood with no clots so hopefully everything is settling. I think I’ll have to book in for a private scan again in a day or two. We’d hoped to tell parents and siblings this weekend but don’t really want to with this hanging over us. Hopefully all is ok.

Thanks again for your message of reassurance xx

I was told mine had reabsorbed but bled after, I just think it took a while to exit body etc. I hope it’s the same for you.

Will your MAU not scan you? I had a scan after and just expressed how worried I was xx

That’s good to know, thank you. I will call again today and see if they will. It was 11.30pm last night when I called and as I’d had my dating scan that day, I think they were reluctant to offer it. Thank you xx

yup! Probably hematoma! I had a massive bleed at 8 weeks. It stopped and again came back at 11 weeks as brown spotting! It can come back and then disappear again! Good thing that’s brown blood! 👍

Try not to panic and get yourself checked!
