hi all I hope you’re doing well. Last night before bedtime I went to the toilet and saw red blood when I wiped , it was enough to cover the tissue without soaking it, this continued along with cramps for a little while. I rang the emergency nurse advice line and they said it could be a chemical , that I should do a pregnancy test in the morning and ring back today.
I’ve done the test which still came back positive , the bleeding blood has turned now darker, so I’m hoping it has stopped.
Could this be normal ? My scan is not until the 27th , so I’m looking for some reassurance. Equally how can a chemical be detected? I read you could still have positives, very worried and confused.
I’m waiting a call back from both my GP and fertility clinic, I appreciate sharing your wisdom on this. It is such a scary moment, giving me a good heart ache 🤕.
thank you all, wishing you all the best in your journeys xx

Hi! I am really sorry you are going through this. I had a heavy bleed around the same time and it was quite scary. The EPU weren't much help at all but my fertility clinic told me to keep taking my meds and booked me for an early scan. I couldn't wait so I had a private scan the following day. It turned out I had a large subchorionic hematoma, which is apparently quite common with IVF pregnancies and even more so if you are taking baby aspirin. I was told to immediately stop the aspirin, to take it easy (no walking or standing from more than 15-20 minutes) and work from home if possible. The hematoma had resolved by 12 weeks scan. Good luck!
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, it is reassuring to hear not everything is doom scenario xx, I have an early scan now booked for tomorrow morning, and the bleeding has stopped as coming darker. I'm not on aspirins at the moment, but hopefully it's something like what you say and there's hope xx.
hi Winniebear I hope you’re well , thank you so much for sharing your experience, I’m glad everything is fine with you xx it’s just so scary as it’s not what you expect to see. I also thought the worst was happening , I have my scan this morning, so I’m hoping it’s something similar in my case xx
Reading more positive stories from others does help me as reassurance , so thanks again for sharing ! Looks like we have the same dates xx , so I’m hoping it’s indeed a normal thing around this time xx
wishing you that everything continues to develop perfectly and you have a smooth symptoms pregnancy after this scare, best wishes xxx
Sorry to hear this. Both my pregnancies I’ve had bright red bleeding and had turned out ok. Unfortunately it can go either way but if it slows down and isn’t accompanied by severe pain it’s a good sign. I had relatively heavy bleeding and it was ok xx
hi , I hope you’re well, thanks a lot for taking the time to share your experience, it gives me hope to read this. I’m at the hospital right now waiting to have the scan. Hopefully it’s something similar, the bleeding has gone darker , and I’ve only had mild cramps , I’m glad I’ll be able to find out more about it today.
Thanks again for your support, wishing you all the best in your pregnancy journey xx
hi all, thank you again for your reassurance and sharing positivity xx , I’ve just came out of the scan, they have said it’s a hematoma and just to take things easy.
They could see the pregnancy is in the right place, with a yolk sac and a heart beat, thank God! , I’m so relieved !
Hi i had that about at about 6 weeks also, only lasted for couple hours. i freaked out too. hospital only said to come in if turned out if the bleeding continued, which it didnt in my case. at my 8 week scan all was normal. currently 16 weeks and counting! xx
Hi, i hope you're well. thank you for sharing!, it's so scary to see, isn't it?, glad it was all ok for you xx, it does help me to read from other's experience, the hospital scan has also helped me to calm down, hopefully everything will keep progressing in the right direction from now onwards,
wishing you the best of luck with your pregnancy journey xx
