I hope this doesn’t upset anyone.
I just wondered if there was any advice on name picking. We downloaded an app and pretty much just kept swiping left 🤦♀️ I couldn’t even pronounce some of them. Did you get books? Xxx

Hey Boo, hope you are doing ok?
Name wise we literally just googled and googled 'top 1000 names in UK', 'top 100 names in Europe by country', 'top 500 names in America' etc etc. We must have read maybe 2000 names in total and still only managed to get a list of about 20 possibles each. We then shared our possibles and both hated at least half of each others possibles (and I hated more of my husbands lols), until we got it down to a list of 6 and I only liked one of them! It's quite a slog but you will get there xx
hi Boo.. we are in Scotland and downloaded the list of names from National records of Scotland website, for the 2021 names registered that year.. it was pretty interesting but did help xx
You can download a spreadsheet from the national audit Office of all the baby names recorded in England in the last 12 months (its a big list!)
I downloaded the Baby Centre app, which has loads of info on it, a really good forum and articles. We got our name from one of the articles on there.
We trawled through huge lists and apps etc too and found very few we liked. In the end I whittled it down to about 20 and my partner came up with maybe 5 😅 Then the process of elimination was easy - both times we’ve chosen a name there has only been 1 from that 25 or so that we could both live with!
I found googling specific types of name to be more helpful. I like old fashioned names so I searched for granny names 😂 Whatever your cup of tea is - traditional, modern, unique? Think of names from films or books, colleagues, etc.
One more thing - this website is great to tell you how popular a specific name is in the UK.. we didn’t want anything too popular so helped whittle things down for us xx
omg I am struggling so much with this as well. Currently 36 weeks and having a C section in 3 weeks. Feeling so much pressure as cannot find a name I even like! (We know we are having a boy!) I feel like he’s going to be baby no name forever 😫
We did the same as above. Also put the proposed baby name with our surname into Google to make sure it wasn't the name or anyone you could Google and wrote down the initials of baby (including middle name) to make sure it didn't spell anything
we went through lists on the internet and in the end went with a lead singer of a band and our youngest is a surname 🙄
We've managed to narrow down to about 12 names that each of us COULD live with (we threw out so many of each other's though 😆🤦♀️ ). We've got those 12 or so written down on post-its, stuck on our table. The idea being, we think them over, get used to them, see how we feel in a few weeks. But I'm pushing for us to have a couple of front-runners agreed, then we'll wait to see which 'suits' her best when she's here! Honestly though, we've looked at dozens and dozens to event get to this point 😂 We seem to hate each other's favourites! xx
We did all the things the above replies said - also looked into the meaning for our names and found other names with the same meaning. And also spoke to family about names in our family tree, even middle names....
We found it difficult though! Cannot lie.
