Asthma and pregnancy...

Does anyone have any experience to share deadling with asthma in pregnancy?

I am 33 weeks today and have been represcribed an inhaler I havent used in many years.

I technically have asthma from a long time ago - post 10 years. But never have any symptoms and don't use any medication.

The doctors said due to a cough that won't get better the last few weeks I need to manage it with an inhaler..

Of course now I am on goolge getting stressed about oxygen levels in relation to the baby!!

Anyone been through this?

Hope inhaler will help ease your cough - it is just to help you feel more comfortable Speak to your midwife about your concerns about the baby sure she will be able to put your mind at ease

Take care

Hey, I’m 32 weeks and also have asthma since childhood. Mine is quite well controlled but still need inhalers and have found myself needing my inhaler a lot more lately as I’m getting really breathless. Don’t Google as it’ll only scare you and trust your doctors, they’ll be doing whatever’s best for you and your little one ❤️

Thanks Ziggy - are you on a steroid one? I am just on Salbutamol blue inhaler at the moment, but seems to do very little and the cough is the same.

The doctors have asked me to do daily peak flows, but it is too painful in my ribs to blow properly.

Yeah that’s the one I use too, it does seem to help my breathlessness though when I need it so maybe go back to your gp if it’s not helping :) x

Hi Eb, sorry to crash your post but I have the same annoying cough you mentioned and am a bit breathless and I was thinking of using my blue salbutamol inhaler which I use when I have allergic asthma. I was wondering if you found out whether it was ok to use this type and if it’s helped your cough? Thanks lovely x

Ah I am the same as you then - I have allergy Asthma...so frustrating.

GP recommended Salbutamol inhaler and said fine in pregnancy. Honestly though, I have been using the inhaler and still have an awful cough with lots of chest and muscle pain from the strain.

You can try Salbutamol and see if that works for you. Diane also recommended steam inhalation.

It just never seems to go for me... hope it doesn't linger for you.

Thanks for getting back to me, I am the same, pulled several muscles in my bump/stomach from coughing and just can't shake it.. been weeks. I am also bunged up again (nose wise) now but I am pretty sure it's the same thing just not going, rather than another cold coming. Will try my inhaler and see if that makes any difference. So sorry its hanging around for you - hope you feel better soon xx

Hi all, just wondering if any of you are starting to feel any better with the inhaler use? I had my whooping cough vaccine a couple of weeks ago and ever since have had a horrible wheezy cough, which seems to get worse when I lie down and my throat makes the strangest sounds (clicking sounds and high pitched whistling sounds) when I try and sleep. I've also been prescribed Salbutamol but the cough isn't going away and it also doesn't seem to massively help the wheezing. The lack of sleep due to the noises is driving me mad, looking for some hope that it's going to go away soon! x

Hey! So, sounds similar. I have stopped using the inhaler as it really hadn't been helping. What I have is a virus that doesn't seem to want to go away!

Yesterday I went to my midwife and she told me to go into a&e and get properly checked. My GP just seemed to ignore me. I didn't want to go to a&e as they have enough to deal with - but this has been going on for 5 weeks.

They thoroughly checked me out and any muscle strain I have is from the cough. There was no infection showing up on blood tests etc.

Today, I am scared to say, I feel slightly better. Less pain and less of a cough!!

Sorry I have no real advice as nobody gave me any treatment apart from the inhaler, that didn't work...

I hope your cough goes soon - I feel your pain.

Xxx
