Hi all Can I ask whether anyone has any thoughts on the above
I wouldn't usually choose to fly during pregnancy just because I've had losses and issues previously and to be quite honest I'm afraid
But we have had some news which means I have to now look at doing this. It would be a 3 hour flight and I would be about 12 weeks at the time.
I would obviously check with doctor too but wondered if anyone had any thoughts about flying / travelling in high risk pregnancies (note it is more my history rather than this pregnancy being high risk per se)
Thank you x x

Good idea to discuss your concerns about traveling with your GP/clinic Take any maternity notes with you - inform your travel insurance company Be aware of your diet and drink bottled water Will be a good chance to relax - so enjoy the break
hey lovely. When we got to this most recent pregnancy (that resulted in our daughter) we decided no flying full stop. Having said that, our only flying was work or holiday. If this is a personal thing that you feel you need to fly for, I personally would go. I think maybe weigh up the benefit of going versus your concern both this pregnancy. The reality is a three hour flight is unlikely to impact your pregnancy in any way at all and you are completely fine to fly, and I am guessing the reason you are even considering it is something super important xx
First congratulations on your pregnancy. I was so so happy when I read your news.
I suppose it depends on why you are classing the pregnancy as high risk. For example, do you have problems with potential blood clotting ?
My last pregnancy was classed as high risk because I developed thyroid issues. I don’t think these were made worse by flying so I did fly a number of times (I think first fly was around 20 weeks). Flights were 2 to 3 hours, I wore compression socks, drank plenty of water and moved around during the flight.
I recently found out I’m pregnant again but this time naturally and totally unplanned. I really hope it works out as hard to trust my body after all the IVF etc. I will be flying at around 12 weeks so that I can take my daughter to see her grandparents and allow her to have some time at the seaside. I am really trying to not over medicalise myself!
So pleased to hear of your pregnancy, such good news. I really hope this is your time.
I think you should seek advice from a doctor you trust. When I finally had my miracle pregnancy, the Dr at my EPU said there is no evidence to suggest I shouldn’t fly but she still advised against it. I cancelled my flights. But I was only 6 weeks pregnant so I don’t know if that makes a difference.
It sounds like a very difficult decision for you. I would trust your instincts.
I have been advised not to and accepted as it wasn't worth the risk On the other hand I had friends and colleagues who took flight and never had any problems.
hi Skittles11 , I’m so happy to read your news, I’m so thrilled for you but also completely understand the constant anxiety you will be feeling!
As you know I also had a loss due to edwards syndrome and my next pregnancy was filled with so much fear, but we got through it. I also had to fly around 13 weeks due to going to a friends wedding in Italy. The flight was absolutely fine and all was well. Will you have your 12 week scan before you travel? Then you will not have this added anxiety on top of your travel when you go if you can have it before.
