Hi all,

I'm so fed up now, trying to live my life as normal but this day by day pain is starting to really get me down!! I have my first lap booked for the 24th of April and I'm starting to really worry that it's not going to make a difference? Can anyone advise how it helped?? Thank you

In the long run it helped but initially it is painful and there are side effects that could make you initially regret it if you weren't prepared.

Firstly bowels - I know it's not a topic people like to talk about but get some stool softener in for when you get home and something like plums. Drink plenty of water when you get in and don't worry if you don't "go" for a few days, it comes in it's own time.

Get some loose clothes for the first few days and a v cushion if you have one. The more you prepare the better it will be. Also, be aware that your first period, in the first 4 to 6 weeks, can be awful as things are still raw inside - things heal slower inside than they do on the outside.

For me it was 100% worth it, though it maybe didn't feel like it at the time. I would do it again but be more prepared, and expect to have 4 weeks off work.

Good luck x

Totally agree with cloudyrain. You will feel worse before you feel better but depending on your circumstances you may start on injections (like me) and then you get a break from your monthly's too! All in all having more movement with less pain is worth it in the end! :) x

I had my lap on the 29th November, And im afraid I am worse since then. I had my first period after 2wks of my lap and it was awful but thought it was because id just had an op, but my period after that was just as bad :( Have tried different hormone treatments since jan and been in a lot of pain with no relief even from painkillers. I have my app with my consultant 2moro as Ive stopped my recent treatment due to side effects and I want another op to try fix what has gone wrong. I think I have adhesions and scar tissue and I have endo left and my right ovary is covered in endo :(. I really hope ur lap is successful and I wasn't trying to scare u but just share my story. xxx

I think the thing to realise is that laparoscopy is only the name of the procedure they use to 'go in', as opposed to laparotomy which is open surgery. Another name used for laparoscopy is keyhole surgery. Sometimes laparoscopy (which is the instrument used for 'looking through the keyhole" is used just to have a look around for diagnostic purposes and it is also used for treatment such as carrying out excision surgery etc. It will therefore very much depend upon what treatment the surgeon undertakes during your operation or whether it is a diagnostic look around.

Hope it goes well and all best wishes x
