How long was your recovery following lap involving excision or other removal?

Hi, I've got my first lap in 2 weeks time, I've been told it will be "at least" a fortnight to recover. Can anyone share their experience of what it's really like, is 2 weeks about right or is it likely to be longer than that (cause 2 weeks will be Christmas!)

Many thanks

I was in too much of a hurry to get up and back to life. Two weeks is about right for taking it very easy. So you can be up and about after that. But I would say listen to your body and be gentle with yourself. Rushing now means you pay for it later. And the old saying of sleep is a healer is very true too. Good luck.

I had my lap 2 weeks ago and returned to work yesterday. The best way to recover is rest and lots of it. Some days you might feel a bit better but still don't go overboard. Make sure you have painkillers in the house and a hot water bottle. Good luck xx

I had mine on the 25th October. I think 2 weeks is a realistic time frame. I was up and out of bed by then, getting dressed and being able to walk around a bit. It's been 4 weeks for me now, and I can still 'feel' that ive gotta be careful and sensible. As the comments above have said; you've got to listen to your body.

Im sure timings can be different for everyone. But my accupuncturist, who works in womens health, says that you should give it atleast 4-6 weeks until you expect to feel back to normal health. Which is probably wise advice. It is quite intensive surgery, so try not to rush things x

A tip I found helped me was Arnica tablets. I got them off Amazon. The one's I had were little peplets you put under your tongue till they disolved. They tasted fine. They help with bruising, cuts and general help to make you heal quickly. Start taking them a couple of days before your op, then I think you can take them for a week after. I DEFINITELY think they helped me get mobile a bit quicker.

Hope your surgery goes well. Take care of yourself. It shouldnt ruin your christmas so try not to worry xx

I was told a week and I was fine after about 5 days (however my lap never included any laser treatment of the endo)

I reckon a couple of weeks is about right. It really depends on what is done on the inside, not so much the outside. I always try to run before I can walk and never learn!!!! If you end up having 4 hours worth of surgery it will take longer to heal. If you end up having 20 minutes of surgery, then obviously you will heal in a lot less time. I had a lap just over a week ago and was lucky that my mum came to stay to look after me. One thing I would add, is to look out for post op blues. They are really common and nothing to worry about. All in all listen to your body and you will know when you're ready to get back to living your normal life. Good luck. N x

I had bowel surgery using excision, which was quite a serious op and i had 4 incisions so i was off for 4 weeks. But if its a simple lap and treat then I'd say 2 weeks comfortably. Good luck xxx

Thank you to everyone for your replies. Just 3 days to go now, I'm on the afternoon list so don't have to get up at daft o'clock to get there. I'm feeling quite prepared, have lots of support, but equally a nice amount of time where I'll be on my own so I can just sleep and not care a jot if I'm stuck in a position that makes me snore! Here's to having less pain soon xx
