So i had my consultant appt re mri results last wk- i have a cyst on both ovaries, endo behind my womb and on bowe and he has said he will do a laparoscopy with excision surgery and try and remove as much from my bowel as safely possible without involving a bowel surgeon, 6 months waiting list BUT i had my pre op assessment today and its only valid for 3 months so i dont understand y it was done so early?????

Im wondering if this means i may get an appt for my op sooner rather than later?

Has anyone had excision surgery? How long were u in hospital? And how was recovery? Im just a bit worried as i have 2 children to look after and one is just 10 months old.....

I am waiting to have excision surgery performed also as well as possibly having a dilated tube removed. From what I've been told surgery time can range anywhere from 1-10 hours. Depending on how much adhesions need to be removed, where it is, what organs are affected. Some people are recovering after several days and some maybe 2-3 weeks. My doctor said that if he's removing a lot of adhesions, that it'll be around 2-3 weeks for recovery. Also call the clinic again and see if they can clarify the pre-op information for you. Good luck.

Hi sorry I can’t add much advice but I’m interested in what you may find out. I have my consultation appointment in a couple of months to have some cysts and hopefully excision surgery at the same time and would be interested to see what tips and recovery periods others suggest.

Will keep everything crossed for you and ask about you’re waiting list and pre op hopefully someone in the hospital will have some answers for you good luck keep pushing them xxx

Hi I had excision surgery in July and I didn’t find the recovery too bad. I had extensive endo removes from behind womb (pouch of Douglas) uterosacral ligaments, pelvic wall, ovarian fossa, ureter, rectum (pretty much throughout pelvis apart from tubes and ovaries).

Mine took around 2.5 hours and I went back to work around a week later-maybe 8/9 days. The actual stomach/pelvis pain was ok. The trapped gas pain in shoulder/chest etc (quite common) was the worst for me-needed codeine and took a good few weeks to disappear completely.

Walking around and moving is the best thing to do although lifting (I see you have a baby) May not be a good idea.

Hope you manage it ok. Any more questions please ask. My symptoms are so much better since the operation so definitely worth it! Mine was for fertility reasons too so fingers crossed! You’re very lucky you’ve had your babies already!

Xx

Hi,

I gave up waiting for the NHS and went private as i had a lap in april then follow up in sept he then said the next appt that is free on his NHS books was nov 2019!! I could not survive that long as everything was painful and got a private appt with the same gynae 10 days later and had my op 5/10! Unfortunetly this shows just how much the NHS are struggling as most gynaes want to keep us on their books longer as endo is not a quick fix but most of them are told that one we sre showing signs of improvement to discharge us. I had extensive endo excised as it was on my bladder the surgery took just under 2 hrs but felt like 5 secs!! It may be worth asking your surgeon if they can have a bowel surgeon on standby as my gynae had a urologist with him to help as my endo was all over the place. It all depends on recovery depending on how you feel they can let you go home i stayed overnight as was a bit groggy. I ended up having 3 weeks off as was in still a lot of pain, my last week i had off i was not in so much pain but needed to adjust as still felt weak as i have had endo for 15 years. Be aware that you will feel tired and beware of the shoulder pain!!! its best to keep moving when you can and listen to your body. I have had 7 laps in total and i prepare for the first few days to be stuck to a bed/sofa so lots of books, films etc.

In regards to the pre assessment I have never heard of it where they book that in without a date for surgery so may be worth contacting PALS . Although it is keyhole surgery it is very invasive.

The decision to have it excised was the best move I made so wish you good luck for when you get your date and hopefully it will help you.
