I had one fitted 3 months ago and I was in so much pain for the first week I ended up in hospital. The consultant at the hospital said because its my first one the womb is seeing it as a foreign object and trying to reject it hense the pain. I was also in the zolodex injection to help with the pain and endo. The pain started to settle down once I started to spit blood. I still get some pain and period cramps but not as much. If the pain contunues to be quite bad after 4 days my advice is to go to your doctors. I found taking strong painkillers and heat packs took the edge off. Hope this is helpful x

I had considerable pain for the first few weeks but in general so much better with Mirena, glad I stuck it out. Good idea to go to docs if it becomes unbearable or continues for too long. Hope it settles down soon.

Yeah when they put it in I was in tears the whole time. The stupid doctor kept saying "ooh is it that painful!" well obviously otherwise I wouldn't be crying! I had a nurse each side of me holding my hands too!

It didn't get any better so in the end I went to a&e, the first time I went They said it was my body rejecting it and I should stick it out but come back if it was still unbearable. But 3 days later my sister just drove me back and we demanded they take it out. Again it was super painful having it taken out but such a relief when it was out.

Good luck, if you can stick with it some people say it gets better but if you can't, have it taken out, at least youve tried it.

Good luck xxxxx

I had mine fitted 5 weeks ago and the pain lasted for days.i told my consultant how painful it was down there so he decided to give me an anaesthetic. He didn't tell me until it was about to be done that it was being injected into my cervix and "most women think this is the worst thing ever"! I have to agree, it was the worst thing I've ever experienced, thank goodness I had my husband to hold my hand. Once the anaesthetic eased off I was in agony. By the time we got back to the car 30 mins after it went in I was hurting, halfway home the period pain started and by the time I got home I was bleeding heavily even though I'd been on norethisterone for 2 years. Hopefully the pain will ease for you, it hurt for the first week really bad. It hasn't made any difference to my endo pains yet but my consultant said it will take a good 3 months for me to notice any positive difference, so here's hoping, I hope the pain dies down for you and you can stick it out but I agree, if the pain gets worse go to your GP if you can. On the third day mine was in I was cursing the thing and ready to pull it out. Good luck :)

If you click on some of my older posts you'll see my experience of the mirena - it was not good, had it in for twelve months and finally they are taking it out but I hope it settles for you, for some it works well xx

i had mine fitted on the 3rd july it was painful for a few weeks i would say it has only started to ease this last week so try and carry on i know it is hard cos i was in so much pain it was almost unbearable but i have noticed with the coil it has made pain after sex alot worse which annoys me as i am married and young and it makes my husband feel really guilty and i bleed early hours the next morning i dont think it has changed much to be honest i dont know if i will carry on with it as i have had to take pill aswell to stop me from bleeding as i am going away and want to finally take my son swimming whereas before i have always been unable to i go on holiday on saturday so after i come back i might have it out if things havent changed i hope it all goes well i would leave it till your 6 week check if possible then they cant say you didnt try it as they are convinced they think the mirena is a miracle worker tc hun xxx

I've had mine for 3 days now, it was that painful, I had to have oxygen cause I panicked and passed out, it has upset me cause of the pain, and I've had 3 kids, I didn't think it would be that bad....

I have been offered this and I refused! I don't like the idea of a foreign object being there that endo has the chance to grow around for 5 years anyway, plus my cervix is difficult to reach. They have trouble getting a smear so I dread to think how they would get the thing in OR out!! I'm asking for Norethisterone, full time. Seeing as my endo is so bad they cannot operate, as it is adhered to my bowel, bladder, pouch of douglas, everywhere! They only managed to remove a 12cm cyst & 1 ovary, when they should have performed a full hysterectomy. AFTER they told me nothing showed up on scans & telling me I had mild neutropenia due to bloods / iron levels being out 7 years ago!! :( x

hi

i had it fitted years ago during surgery - worse thing i ever had i would bleed if i lifted a carrier bag, went swimming anything... i thought the whole point of it was to stop my bleeding and help... 2 weeks later in surgery had it removed... i have just been offered this again and bluntly refused

it does work for some and not others... i wouldnt continue after a week with it if you are in pain... also they cant always see where they are putting it unless you are in surgery

good luck but dont suffer in silence see your GP or the gyne

So good to read that I am not the only one going through this, thanks everyone for your great advice. I think heat packs and pain killers are the way forward.
