This is a letter I got from an Endo Specialist Nurse at a NHS Hospital when asking what makes a qualified endo specialist.
“Thank you for contacting the London North West University Endometriosis Centre.
Ealing Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital are all one Trust, London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.
Endometriosis services are provided across all 3 sites. Clinics run at Ealing and Northwick Park Hospital and surgery can be undertaken at all 3 sites. The location of surgery will depend on the complexity and stage of Endometriosis and will be tailored to each individual patient’s requirement.
The current wait time from GP referral to hospital appointment is 4-6months.
With regards to specific requirements to become a recognised endometriosis specialist there is no specific qualification. This is based on experience, surgical skillset, special interest, advanced training modules as well as ongoing professional development focused in this area.
I can see from your records that you have already been seen by one of our Specialist Endometriosis Consultants who put a plan in place for you with follow up in 6 months. This can be brought forward if you would like to be reviewed earlier.
I hope this answers your questions. Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any further queries.”
All this after being told also that BSGE centre had moved from central Middlesex to Ealing when it was Northwick Park the whole time….as i originally asked to be referred to Central Middlesex and got sent Ealing instead without notification. I would have given Northwick Park another chance….as I chose central Middlesex instead due to my history with NP…I just wanted to go elsewhere but instead got sent to Ealing and being told that was new base when it wasn’t cause I found out by phoning BSGE. BSGE said that it was THERE responsibility, the hospital the let them know of any changes not them.
I needed answers as to whether my gynae who was a “Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology” and an “Advanced Laparoscopy ATSM Trainee, as part of senior specialist registrars with an interest in endometriosis at a London hospital who happens to also work at Ealing Hospital” was in fact a endometriosis specialist or not? Due to my experience with him and him being a lapro atsm trainee still raises questions.
Now based on all of this it would make sense as to why I asked him he said yes…even if he likely isn’t cause apparently there aren’t any qualifications needed to a endo specialist just an interest and some experience… :/
Overall my time at A&E (I had a flare)…I was not examined or whatever….nor given pain management options…so nothing solved and a doctor who appeared to be in his 80s and not that coherent didn’t know what BSGE was. It was hard to communicate with him also…
