I have just come in to an appointment at southmead hospital Bristol to find my previous specialist (who was amazing!) Is no longer here. Do you know how I find the names for the BSGE registered specialists? I tried a link in a previous post but it found nothing at all for southmead.
I've been told I'll be seeing a Dr Islam who is an endo specialist but I dont think this is the same as BSGE accredited and they said he's newly a specialist so I'm not sure if he will be inexperienced which worries me.
Thanks,

I used to see doctor tracey Appleyard who was fantastic so changing to anyone else has made me a bit nervous if I'm honest. I'll see if I can get his first name when I go in to do a google search. Xx
Wait I’m under Miss Appleyard and waiting for a lap. She was amazing (even though I only met her once). I didn’t know she had gone! How did you find out? Aw so sad x
The last time I went into an appointment I just got told as I arrived. I'm not sure if it's just the clinic she's not doing ir if its laps too. Dr Islam was amazing though so if you have an appointment with him hopefully you'll be just as impressed as I was. I'd put him on par with Dr Appleyard which is high praise as I've been seeing her for years and she was amazing. Xx
You should be able to find all the accredited endometriosis centres by clicking on this link bsge.org.uk/centre/. According to the website Southmead Hospital is still an accredited centre, it is the hospitals that are accredited, rather than the specialists.
Hello, I’m also seen at Southmead and see Dr Sanjay Vyas who is BSGE registered - I was told he’s become semi-retired since Covid so was really concerned but have been told he’s still doing surgery/available.
If not I was going to get moved to St Michaels as there is a good BSGE specialist there - this can be done via CCG (I started the process of switching but decided to stay in the end)
Good luck - it’s stressful when consultants leave /retire when you’ve had such confidence in them xx
Hi, well I saw Dr Islam yesterday and I have to say I was really impressed. He completely listened to me, had taken the time to read through all of my case notes before my appointment and completely put my mind at rest. He got me in for a pelvic scan there and then and gave me reassurance with what we're going to do going forward. If you end up seeing him hopefully you'll be just as impressed. Xx
Thinking back I think he did my last laparoscopy as he was Dr Vyas’s senior registrar at the time. If it was him then yes he’s was really lovely - great if he’s now a consultant
