I have been suffering with very heavy periods and pain for the last few years, it’s took around 18 months to see a gynaecologist and be diagnosed with uterine fibroids, since then various treatments have been tried including oral contraceptives, mirena coil, provera and more recently GNRH injections. I was awaiting surgery but in the last month have suffered from a prolapse of the fibroid which is incredibly uncomfortable. I wondered if anyone has the same and what treatment they had. I’m soo tired constantly and still bleeding on a daily basis. Have an appt with my consultant in mid January but want to go informed so I can push the urgency of my need to get the surgery.

Hiya, I’ve had bad periods since teenage years but in 2019 for 3 years I had constant bleeding very heavy, had implant, then tried Cerelle pill which I am still on. It took 3 years to push for an MRI then I got a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic to remove a huge fibroid which did stop my constant heavy bleeding in over a year only had one 5 day period of heavy big clots but the Cerelle pill is doing its job and barely have any bleeding now. My bmi is too high for combined pill and refused coil. My next move if it failed was provers injections but not tried.
Hello, I have a fibroid and it has been causing me problems for the past 5 years. Mainly extremely heavy bleeding even when I am not on my period. When I have the episodes I am unable to leave the house. I also experience pain during intercourse and bleed during it (sorry for TMI) I was misdiagnosed with cervical ectropion which I also had, but that was not causing the bleeding. They only located the fibroid in 2023. I would not suggest the pill, this only masks the pain/bleeding and does not resolve the issue. Once you stop taking it, you will be back to square 1. I also believe the pill is what caused my fibroid in the first place as I have been taking it for over 10 years and after doing research I have found that hormones can cause fibroids to grow.
I have done so much research on all treatments and have been looking at two treatments that would work for me. I have decided to proceed with Laparoscopy (keyhole) Through a keyhole cut, uses a surgical instrument to remove the fibroids. You can do this if the fibroid is under 7cm. Another option is Radio Frequency Ablation of Myoma. This is a minimal invasive treatment and shrinks the fibroid. Although, this shrinks it overtime. Because I want the issue gone completely and to move on with my life I have decided to remove it all together. I have this booked for March. Because yours has prolapsed you may need laparoscopy.
Do not let the consultants fob you off! You have to tell them how bad the issue is and that you require treatment asap. Also be careful with what they suggest as many treatments can affect fertility in the future (if you plan on having children)
In the meantime tranexamic acid tablets help when you are bleeding heavy to calm it down but this is just a temporary measure until it can be resolved, you should ask your doctor for this.
A very helpful website is British fibroid trust. I hope this helps. Good luck x
