lost coil

hi. I wondered if anyone else had ever experienced their Mirena coil going missing? I’m on my second coil. Had it placed during surgery last summer. I’ve blessing for the last 3 months which is u usual for me. Pain has also returned with the period. I had a really painful week last week so went to see my dr. It appears my coil has disappeared. Having to have an urgent outpatients ultrasound to see where it is as I don’t think it’s come out. My bleeding isn’t heavy so I think I’d have noticed if it came out. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and if so wondered how they go about removing it if it’s stuck to my uterus? I have to have it placed and removed under GA due to the pain. I can’t even have a smear test when awake due to the pain from the speculum so am a bit worried.

Hi Mustang2598

totally can relate,

my coil went missing 3 years ago and took many visits to A&e and the Gp before it was finally found with a CT scan.

I finally had it removed 6 months after the CT by GA and yet another Laproscopy they took a good 2 hours finding it as it was seen on the CT floating in my abdominal wall, when they found it was actually near my spine.

It cut my bladder which i am still having the after effects 3 years on. The NHS didn't see it as an emergency as " a bit of plastic can't cause damage and it is just contraception"

My advice be relentless with the GP and your Gynae till they listen to you .

wishing you all the luck and hope they find it soon.

Thank you. I was told on Tuesday I’d have an urgent US this week. Not heard anything yet. Just want to know where it is at the moment. Do t like the not knowing.

most often it’s because threads have just wrapped up into the cervical canal and the device itself is sat where it should be on ultrasound. Hopefully that’s the case for you. And if you need GA for removal anyway that wouldn’t complicate things for you.
