Private laparoscopy costs

Hi,

Any recommendations for going private?

I had a scan a couple of weeks ago and they said my appendix looked very inflamed which can be a secondary problem caused by Endo - yet I’m still not urgent on the nhs despite waiting over 9 months now and having two pre-ops done!

Has anyone been seen under Dr Edi-Osagie? Please private message me. I’ve heard good things but it’s always difficult to know. Booked in for a consultation so hopefully some improvement soon!

I've been private; the care is amazing, you're treated like a person not a number on a waiting list. I like that all appointments, operations, follow ups are noted, and you can book them in when it suits you. I had my private initial appointment a week after my GP said I needed a referral; you just book your private one and then tell the GP. I could have had my lap as soon as two weeks after my initial appointment, but I needed to organise my time and plan so went for a month.

Costs; initial appointments are usually £200 to £250, additional are about £100 to £150. Then xrays, blood tests etc are added on - that's why my specialist requested me to get blood tests done but suggested to go to my local hospital (free) and he'll get sent the results! Lap includes hospital room fee, meals, nurses, prescriptions, and the two week follow up. The surgeon fees come through separately as does the anaesthetist, but in total one of mine for a diagnostic lap, hysteroscopy, excision of endo, unsticking of organs, biopsies, day case was £3000 ish total. Obvs overnight costs a little more for the room, meals and nurse care - I think mine was about £5000 total for my second lap but it did also need another surgeon. If you work you can get medical insurance through work (health insurance), or partners work, or private medical insurance (look up how BUPA works) they often clear it directly with the hospital, also some hospitals let you pay by instalments (finance options) so it's worth looking into; just ask at reception when you go / come out of your appointment.

Some private docs do treatment on the NHS so you may need to go for your initial consultation privately with them and then on their NHS waiting list, it's worth asking the one you're seeing.

Are you able to give the name of your consultant and clinic details please. I am really keen to go down this route. If you don’t feel comfortable posting it on here I can give you my email address. Thank you!
