Had surgery on Monday. Advice on recovery

Hey so I had my excision surgery on Monday in which the surgeon was confident the surgery went well and in his words he removed to cut away all of my Endo. The dye test was also done and flushed through my left tube perfectly well however nothing came through the right tube. He seemed to think there could be scar tissue inside the tube as although it looked okay from the outside nothing flushed through at all so there must be a reason for this.

My main advice I’m after really is how long after surgery did anybody start to notice if the surgery had worked or not? So Obviously I’m sore from the op etc but I’m still feeling a lot of my ‘normal Endo pain’ from before I had the surgery. Don’t really know when to expect to see a difference or not. Did anybody else experience this but then after a while the pain totally subsided?

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated 😊 x

Hello

It's totally normal to not have instant relief from surgery. It usually takes a few months to heal internally, length of time depends on how much was removed and also on the individual we heal at different rates. And because where you are healing is where the endo was it may feel like it's endo but it could actually be the healing process.

This makes me feel better. I keep telling myself it’s only been 3 days let yourself recover and heal but can’t help that niggling thought in the back of my mind that maybe it hasn’t worked! It’s probably me being impatient, I think it’s because I’m so nervous that it won’t have gone I’m just expecting things to happen far too soon. Thanks for your reply helps me feel bit more positive!

Yes I do understand.Yes I was there.

All these things are hard to get to grips with.

But:

"" Just try to step outside your box cos negative thoughts don't help nor does getting too deep with over thinking.

Step away, put your mind on another focus, painting a room, learning to drive, gardening anything but what you want or feel.

It will help

Thank you I appreciate this. Sometimes just to know other people have felt the same is a comfort. It’s stressful and I think because I’m also on my period emotions are running quite high!

I’m trying to keep myself busy, just unfortunate as work is usually my place where it takes my mind off of things, being with the children at school keeps me too busy to worry! But obviously I’m not well enough to be back yet.

Just have to see what happens in time now and let myself recover thank you for the advice 😊

Be patient with yourself and your body. I had laparoscopy 6 weeks ago and am still having some niggles of pain here and there but am largely ok now.

I have had two laps and my healing has been different both times. First one I had minimal pain immediately after. This one I felt awful for nearly 2 weeks. Third week I was much better but still had to take things slow and would feel rough if I exerted myself too much (and by exerted I don't even mean anything too drastic...even just too long a walk or cleaning the kitchen with a bit too much gusto!)

Just trust that your body is doing what it needs to do to heal. I know how eager you must feel to know if it has worked but in a few months you'll know how much difference it has made. Sending you lots of love and healing vibes! xxx

Thank you for your reply! Ah that’s great to hear, I’m trying to be positive and let myself heal! I do feel very weak this time compared to the lap I had done in august but I suppose I didn’t have anything removed in the first one. My blood pressure was an issue this time as well and I think I can feel it as I feel lightheaded and weak. I’m on my period too which is very heavy so that’s never going to help! Weirdly keep having nosebleeds as well, not sure if that’s a usual thing to happen or not. I guess it’s just a combination of everything adding to me not feeling so great.

Hopefully I’ll start to feel the difference in a few weeks! Thank you so much 😊 xx

Oh gosh yes I felt lightheaded and nauseous for days after this time. Sounds like you're really going through it 😞

If you have any concerns definitely call 111, the ward you had your surgery or even your GP. Even if just to put your mind at rest. I don't know about you but I always put off doing that as don't want to be a hassle (probably from years of endo being ignored by GPs!) but it's what they are there for!

I’m exactly the same as you! Don’t want to be seen as making a fuss especially when there are women who are worse off than me, I never want to be the one to hassle them! I’ll see how I go the next few days and if I’m still feeling that bad I’ll give them a call! I’m experiencing my usual Endo pain today worse than the last couple of days. Not sure if it’s because the surgery pain is easing off I can notice the other pain more. My leg pains have been really intense today! X

Honestly just take it easy as you can and be kind to yourself. Keep us posted with how you are getting on! Xx

I had instant relief in terms of endo pain after my second lap but I think it just completely depends on how the surgery went and where they had to remove it from. My pain was all related to the endo causing all of my bladder, urinary tubes and womb to be fused together so once this was removed I didn’t have that constant pain but say if the pain was mostly due to inflammation etc it would be completely normal for the pain you experience when recovering to still be the same. Just make sure you rest and you should start to see an improvement once you start to heal, lie down, watch some cheesy Christmas movies and eat lots of food you love, the more you rest the quicker you’ll recover x

I guess everybody is different but part of me was expecting to have instant relief but I’ve literally had none at all! My leg pain has been really intense as has my back and pelvic pain. I suppose I just need to give myself time and trust that it has worked!

Hard to be positive though isn’t it when you’re feeling no difference at all. I’ve definitely been trying to rest as much as poss! X
