After a diagnosis stage 4 endometriosis in 2016, I was fitted with a Mirena coil, which I'm happy to report was an absolute game changer in what had become a debilitating condition. I'm now in my mid 40s and on HRT (oestrogel) for classic menopausal symptoms since 2021. During this time, my Mirena coil was due to be replaced. This was my third coil but the first to be fitted while I was not sedated and was extremely painful. Since the fitting of this, nearly 11 months ago, my endometriosis symptoms have returned, (albeit not as bad as they originally were). My GP suggests this is while my body gets used to the progesterone levels, however I've not had this with previous coils. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Apologies if this has been covered before, I'm new on here. Very grateful for anyone's thoughts or recommendations! Many thanks.

Pain after third Mirena coil
Hiya,
I’m on my fourth Mirena. Briefly- first two were like you say a game changer- had my first fitted at 27. The effects wore off after two years so I had them changed early. Third Mirena was actually a levosert which is slightly different although all literature online says they are the same. This didn’t provide any relief and my gynaecologist changed it after 11 months. Now on my fourth, it has taken 9 months for me to feel a benefit, but my last two cycles were much improved so I’m hoping things have settled down. I know in the meantime from the early days my adenomyosis has progressed so there is more to combat, but it did take a while for this coil to work its magic.
It might be worth checking if you had a Levosert rather than a Mirena because as far as I know they are not necessarily as effective for treating endo and adenomyosis.
