Does anyone have experience with the progesterone-only pill (specifically Medroxyprogesterone)? My doctor has prescribed it for temporary relief of endo pain whilst I await an appointment with a surgeon to discuss having my 3rd laparoscopy (I’ve got two endometriomas brewing in my left ovary causing severe and persistent pain). I’ve never used this and am a little skeptical it will help with pain?!

Hey I don’t take this exact one but I do take Noriday which is another one, have taken it for years before my diagnosis so can’t say if it reduces my pain but once came off it unknowing it was a treatment and my pain was worse. I also take deinogest which I think is also progesterone based but not a contraceptive and that definitely reduced my pain for a time. Nothing is ever straight forward hey! I guess it’s a case of trial and error.
Thank you for sharing! Yes I think you're exactly right it’s trial and error for everyone. My doctor said it may not help with the pain but it also might so I guess worth trying while I await surgery!
Hey! My husband and I are having ivf in Spain. Sadly last month we had egg collection but 0 eggs fertilised. My consultant reckons that my endometriosis is ruining the quality of my eggs. On Monday, he recommended me to go on the combined pill to try and calm everything down. I spoke with my GP here and because of my age (I'm 36), she only wanted to prescribe the progesterone only pill. I got this on Thursday but haven't started taking it. I found out yesterday that my date for surgery to get my fallopian tubes removed and to remove endo cysts is next month. I contacted my surgeons secretary to ask about the pill and she said I shouldn't be on anything prior to surgery. I will probably take the pill after surgery and before we have another egg collection but I will see what my consultant says.
Although can not offer advice on this, I'm keen to hear what others say about it. Xxx
Thank you for sharing your experience! Hopefully once you have your surgery and recover your body will be in a great place for IVF. I’m sure it’s a hard journey, wishing you all the luck in the world! xx
Interesting they said you shouldn’t be on anything before surgery as I was on my pill when I had my first surgery and no one ever said anything, I also believe they sometimes prescribe deinogest and other medications to people specifically before surgery to calm things down. The mixed messages are incredibly frustrating x
I've taken a 10 day course of this the last 2 months to stop my overly long periods. It stopped the bleeding which stopped my pain, but on its own I wouldn't day it had any pain relief.
