Try Mirena again or hysterectomy

hello!

My life has been upside down for nearly a year now since having debilitating pain from endometriosis and suspected Adenimyosis (although they haven’t been able to see either in an ultrasound).

I’ve been on Synarel Gndr medication since March, which has significantly improved my symptoms (although I’m had intensely painful breakthrough bleeding twice when my nose has been blocked!)

My NHS consultant has advised trying the coil again (I’ve tried it 3 times in the past for contraception and absolutely hated it - found it uncomfortable after a month and felt strange in myself).

I saw a private consultant, who recommended a full hysterectomy.

I’m really confused about what to do. i have young children, who have seen me in such pain this past year. I’m worried about trying the coil and being unable to look after them properly again (I’ve had to use a wheelchair at times before starting Synarel).

My mum said the coil got lost inside her body and they had to operate to get it out (!)

But a hysterectomy is radical, as my NHS consultant said.

The Synarel is giving me painful joints and basically switching off my brain, so I need to make a decision and hope for the best.

Any ideas really appreciated

:)

Hi!

This disease truly sucks doesn’t it!

Only my opinion, but if you aren’t planning on having any more children, I would jump straight in with a full hysterectomy. Get your life back!

All the best x

if you’re struggling so much then I think a hysterectomy and ovaries removed maybe a solution. The synarel is basically putting you in menopause by shutting the ovaries off but if that’s relieving symptoms then hopefully a hysterectomy would too. Main thing to be aware of is that this is a complicated op with endo too and you must ensure endo is excised at same time as the hyster.

You’ll also likely need hrt after and it must be combined and continuous (progesterone and oestrogen every day) after the op. The lowest dose possible for benefit from menopause symptoms.

It will take time to recover from an op but it will certainly cure the adenomyosis and if endo excised then hopefully you’ll be rid of endo too. There’s no guarantee with endo as it can come back after menopause but there’s a good chance it won’t.
