Hysteroscopy

Hi I have been suffering with Endo since my early 20's and am now 55.

I have managed my endo well until recently. I had been taking progesterone tablets for a long time and came off them as advised by my doctor. Unfortunately, I had a bleed and went back on them again. I went to see my GP as I have been having back pain, right sided pain from a cyst I have got on my ovary. I was sent for an ultrasound and was told my cyst has got bigger and the lining of my womb has thickened.

I have now been referred for a hysteroscopy. Has anyone else had a hysteroscopy and what was it like - I am really frightened. I am also frightened about cancer, although I haven't been told this - I am just really worrying.

Any assurance, tips or help would be most appreciated.

TIA xx

I had a hystoscopy and biopsy it was fine I had a spinal for it despite being down for a general. I was uncomfy after but no worse than I am normally best take pain relief before and after. At least I know it's not cancerous and that my Adenomyosis is 6cm where my MRI scan said I had neither endo or adeno. It's all a minefield.

I’ve messaged you directly. I’m in the same position along with thousands of others. There are new guidelines published last month by The British Menopause Society to deal with the sheer amount of post menopausal women on HRT presenting with post menopausal bleeding. I would put a link on here but I don’t know how. Sorry, but they are worth a read. From what I can gather, the key to us post menopausal ladies with a history of endometriosis is to get the balance between progesterone and oestrogen right.

Progesterone (from what I can gather is imperative to us) it’s all still trial and error as I’m currently finding out. My GP admitted there is still so much to find out and research for us ladies with track record of endometriosis when it comes to HRT. I’ve said before I feel like a hormonal test Guinea pig.

My gynaecologist suggested upping my Utrogestan tablets to balance my Oestrogen patches. I’m hoping this will settle things and will update you. I’m currently sat in pain and spotting and crossing everything that this slight change will help. It’s so scary and triggering to go to the loo for a pee and wipe away blood when your periods supposedly finished years ago.

So. Apparently this is very common. Try not to worry but obviously do get investigated as you are already of course. It’s just very worrying to have the thought of cancer at the back of your mind. I was treated very well by the NHS and my local GP, so now don’t have to worry about cancer so much, but please, please, please can the universe STOP my bleeding, fatigue and pain. I’ve had ENOUGH!!

Hi there

Thank you for your reply. It is very scary stuff, and you just don't get the information you need. I was lucky and spoke to my gynaecologist and she put my mind at ease regarding the hysteroscopy and having a local - they will give me an injection and have said there will be gas and air if I need it.

She also said, the risk of cancer is very low, I haven't got it, but I have got a polyp so they want to have a look with a view to removing it.

I will let you know how I go on, I am currently waiting for a date and just want to get it over and done with now.

Good look to you to and let me know how you get on.

xx

They gave me some kind of injection? after I came round as I was in agony, screaming from my trolley etc. Made a right fool of myself. The surgeon actually came out of theatre and gave it to me and in about 30 seconds, my agony almost totally subsided. Have no idea what it was. Get that lined up!! They removed a polyp from me, otherwise all okay. I hear some ladies didn’t suffer any pain at all.

If there’s an afterlife…. I’m coming back as a man…Good luck.
