they suspected ovarian cancer so was operated on 2 weeks ago where there the plan was full hysterectomy but they where unable to do this due to severe endo n womb adhered to bowel so badly id have ended up with s stoma n as ovarian tumour there was no rational to take such extreme measures.

So ovaries taken & womb left in with a mirena coil still in place.

I should b now in full menopause but actually feel better as i feel i was menopausal anyway as im 53 .

Has anyone else been through this ?

Do i need HRT ? As thats gona b a tricky path as some could reactivate the endo & im high risk of breast cancer.

Just confused by it all .

Hi, did they do an MRI scan prior to the operation. I have stage 4 endo and they abandoned my hysterectomy when they found it all attached. Now I'm hemorrhaging all the time and am on zoladex to try to stop it. They should have had a bowel specialist in there or did they? And that's why you have the temporary stoma bag? Was it an endo surgeon? Xx

Sorry you've had to go through all that. I was strongly cautioned against having HRT after my hysterectomy due my risk of breast cancer too (family history on both sides of it) and have mostly managed fine without it. I also had A-typical Complex Hyperplasia on top of endo and my GP agreed with me that HRT was definitely not a good idea given that as well. Hot flushes and vaginal dryness have been my main problems - I didn't get on well with the pessaries with a super-low dose of estrogen to deal with the later but may try and got back to the gel again. It's not always fun but I have been coping fine without any HRT and, for me, the risks outweigh the benefits. For others with a different medical or family history, it may very well be not the same at all. Your best thing is perhaps to speak to your gynae or your GP and see what they advise. If you are currently feeling fine with HRT that is great and there's probably no need to add it. I'm one of those who believe in the less 'artificial' hormones added to our bodies, the better (unless there is a need of them, which there often is). I guess that probably isn't much help to you at all. Sorry. I thought I would put my experience out there in case it does end up being of some use though. Good luck with your recovery from your op and I hope any further treatment gets to you quickly and goes really well!
