hi all. I was diagnosed with adenomyosis via a scan in 2021. My gynaecologist didn’t acknowledge it after so many visits and kept putting me on pills and all sorts. Nothing has helped so far, she has arranged for an ablation and diagnostic laparoscopy to rule out endometriosis. And then I will get discharged from the gynaecology. I m just confused anyone else had similar experience?
ablation and laparoscopy : hi all. I was... - Endometriosis UK
ablation and laparoscopy
I have adenomyosis.
Before I was diagnosed, which took decades, I was put on different types of pill.
Due to the side effects I suffered it was agreed by the Family Planning nurse and my GPs that I shouldn't be put on any hormonal contraceptives. I then saw a gynecologist after a scan that diagnosed me with adenomyosis and she told me that I must have a mirena coil. She refused to believe me when I said that the GPs in the practice that referred me had already agreed that I shouldn't have any form of hormonal contraception so I was still given an appointment to have a coil fitted.
On the day a registrar was the doctor in charge. She understood why I didn't want a coil and said if I couldn't manage with tranexamic acid tablets, which she upped the dose off, that I needed to have an ablation. She gave me information about having an ablation.
I hope you are aware that they often fail/stop working after a few years so you may have to have a hysterectomy - if doctors decide you are near the menopause they will try not to do anything - and that you cannot get pregnant if you have an ablation. It seems some women are not aware of this.
I still had to be examined and have a biopsy taken to ensure I didn't have endometrial cancer.
I was then discharged. If I want an ablation I need to be referred again by my GP.
I've been lucky in the last few years as I've worked from home a lot so have just managed. I was actually referred to gynecologist when I wasn't.
