Unknowingly discharged

I have today been discharged from gynaecology unknowingly after having surgery to remove severe endometriosis in October 2023, I called them end of December 2023 beginning of January 2024 and they said I would be seen in April 2024 for a follow up appointment. I have now received a letter telling me I've been discharged because I didn't make contact which is not true at all and I think it's disgusting that I've not had a follow up from my operation and just being left with the diagnosis because I have been diagnosed with a chronic illness and left so I am absolutely furious because I made contact. What can I do? I've contacted my GP and I've contacted PALs in my NHS trust I'm absolutely disgusted and feel so deflated and lost.

Hello, this is disgusting. Do you have your consultants secutary phone number? If not write to them, posting it to the hospital with hospital name & address, name of consultant, department (gynaecology), and write in capital letters. Important & confidential. It will get to them. I’ve found this more effective than speaking to my consultants secutary tbh. Don’t give up getting back intouch & demanding a follow up appointment. That’s the least you deserve. Good luck! Xx

Keep pursuing this, there is such a lack of follow ups these days. One local hospital don’t do them unless requested by the patient. It shows a complete lack of understanding for this disease.

Hi, so sorry this has happened, I would be mad too!! I think you've done the best thing by contacting PALS, they should be able to assist (and quicker than the GP I suspect), hope they reinstate you and prioritise your appointment, don't give up x

Why do they do this? Immediately after my failed hysterectomy (as I was coming round!) My consultant told me I'd be discharged from his care. I couldn't believe it so I demanded that he didn't until I could work out what to do next. It's like "we found endometriosis- not our skill set, sorry off you go" I asked to be referred to a specialist and I'm SURE they forgot to do this. Eventually I went private. After the operation, I rang the ward as I hadn't heard from the consultant. It took him a week to ring me to explain why I hadn't had the hysterectomy. I agree with everyone. Go through your GP and get them to email them. Ring the secretary daily if necessary. It's outrageous that they do this; you just feel so alone 😔 but you're not. Keep ringing and demand an appointment. Your GP should be helpful. Good luck xxx
