I’ve been bleeding for nearly a month. My period started and never stopped. Had to go to A & E twice, they prescribed me Norethisterone for 10 days, but bleeding didn’t stop, went again to AE and they’ve added Tranexamic Acid. I’ve had slight improvement for 2-3 days after taking these pills for 2 days but bleeding returned and it returned very heavy.
I have multiple fibroids, I have done embolisation in 2.5 years ago at London’s Royal Free which improved my conditions until now. I don’t know if I need to keep taking these pills and the bleeding will stop eventually? Is that normal that bleeding is still there?

The Tranexamic acid should only be taken for four days. I don’t know about the other medication. You definitely need to be referred back to gynaecology department also a check for anaemia if the bleeding continues. Good luck
Hi I bled for a year and a half constantly without any breaks. I ended up having to get an endometrial ablation, I have had one which failed and the other a success. I have endo and adenomyosis. I have also taken northisterone and tranexamic acid but I believe they can’t be taken long term so once i stopped the bleeding came back. Ended up with several iron infusions too. I would suggest you go back to GP as it can make you feel really poorly x
I have been on tranexamic acid since October 2023 and personally I haven’t seen an improvement. I would ask your GP for some folic acid because with heavy bleeding you will lose a lot of iron and feel very tired. Tranexamic doesn’t stop the bleeding it is suppose to reduce it and stop blood clots which I still get even though I’ve been taking them for 6 months. I would personally go back to your GP and ask for alternatives.
Hi I bled for 21 months - utter hell. I'm on zoladex now but wish I'd read about estrogen dominance before I went on it. I'm reading "overcoming estrogen dominance" by magdalena Wszelaki and I highly recommend it. I have stage 4 endo and 5 fibroids. The bleeding is a symptom and you need to tackle the cause xxx
This is really horrible isn’t it?! I’ve been on tranexamic acid for a week, it helped a bit but was still clotting in the evening and morning in particular. Have today taken x3 Norethisterone tabs today to try to see if they help and there is more blood and clots than ever this evening! It’s been 2 weeks of a non-stop period, am 45 and never had significant issues with period before. I’m sorry to hear you about your experience. I’m also anemic according to tests, taking 3 iron tablets a day, along with vitamin D and b12. I cannot go into work, not sure when I will be able to, feel like my career will be over because of this as can’t even go out! The sister/dr at the surgery keep saying it’s perimenopause but I had not idea that people were suffering like this until I started reading/joining these kind of boards and I was not expecting this amount of blood! I have an appointment with a gynae on Thursday, haven’t even had an ultra scan as yet, fingers crossed for some respite for us all 🙏🏼
I was given Norethisterone when I was15 (I'm in 40s now). An evil drug, in my opinion. Made everything worse. Ask for something else.
Also, Traxenamic didn't do anything good for me.
I take Zeletta now (POP). Pain much reduced and bleeding went away after a couple of months. It would have been great to have also had this when I was younger.
Did your bleeding stop? I am in the 3rd week of bleeding.. My appointment is on Tuesday.. I had 3 - 4 days of heavy bleeding then stopped after one week for 3-4 days and it started again.. I am 47 years old and really worried about my iron levels.. I totally understand how u feel.. So annoying.. I feel depressed.. The bleeding is easing during the night and morning and is becoming more intense during the afternoon!!
I’m in the boat you were in months ago! Did you find a solution to the bleeding. I’m on holiday and am thinking about cutting it short but not sure how going home would help…
Hi, I wanted to say I feel all your pain! I have been bleeding non- stop pretty much for 18 months and really don’t know what to do. Had other complications alongside it. Had some norethistorene when in hospital with tranexamic acid and stopped for about 5 days… however, the norethistorene caused horrendous migraines that completely knocked me out 😢 Not sure what to do… due to pain and endometriosis, children have not happened for me and I feel like they won’t now 😢
I'm in the same boat, and am also on TXA acid. Norethisterone made my clotting much worse.
TXA is licensed for 4 to 5 days use for heavy periods (that's how long a normal period typically lasts) but, your GP or surgeon can recommend longer term use if your bleeding is heavy. There isn't much research into long term use of TXA but many specialists feel the potential risks of bleeding & anemia outweigh the benefits, so advise taking till things stop. I was so worried about this but have sought 5 or 6 different opinions from GP to specialist endo surgeon.
They all say, recommend taking longer than 4 days.
I hope you got sorted, it's a constant battle. I'm seriously contemplating uterus removal at 38 because the bleeding has my life on hold.
