I know there are lots of posts around this but I was wondering how long people bled for and were in pain once having the Mirena fitted? I feel like I have a football in my stomach and I’m bleeding non- stop
I’ve only had it in for 20days so I know it’s early days and I really want to give it a chance. Has anyone had a similar experience early on and then it settled? It’s Christmas Day and I’m sat with a hot water bottle and taking paracetamol 😣😣

Hi there Im afraid I cant offer much consolation except for the fact you're not alone! I had the mirena fitted during a laparoscopy and have been bleeding and in pain for 3 months now however the only comfort is that the pain is definitely becoming less often and the bleeding is becoming lighter - I agree with you I don't know whether its best to leave it and hope for the best or call it... Its so unfair we are both searching here for answers on xmas day when we should be enjoying ourselves xxxx
Sorry you are going through so much , my daughter got the Merena Over a year ago. She had one month that was pretty good but it did take a month to stop bleeding but now she bleeds everyday and is in pain so she is getting it removed. I wish you luck.
Not much help but I bled from the week after I got it right up until 4 month and my body rejected it! Constant period like pains and bloating the whole time and not to mention the headaches! It wasn’t to be for me but I did manage to stick it out until the 4 month mark before seeking help! Try stick it out!!
3 months and still going.... constant period type pains, bloating and generally rubbish. Had my bloods done last week and sure enough I was anaemic. Have an appointment in January to have it checked and potentially removed.
I got the mirena inserted during my lap in February. Since that point I was losing handfuls of hair (my hair line is noticeably thinner), scabs on my scalp, spotting, severe pain and cramping, diarrhea, acne, etc. The worst part is that I was still getting this weird phantom cycle. So I just did a specialized hormone test and found out that the lupron and mirena are doing too good of a job and killing all the hormones. So my body was severely lacking progesterone which is the calming hormone. So now I’ve got a cream I use 10 days a month. I’ve used it two “cycles” and it’s helped a lot.
The test is super specialized and only offered by a company in the USA (I’m in Canada, so I don’t know the logistics to you). It’s called the DUTCH test. It’s a dried urine sample test that you do 5 of over the course of 24 hours. It will tell what your hormones are doing over the day (it also tells you how much oestrogen that you’re producing which is the cancer producing hormone). The problem with the regular blood work is that they do one test that day and that’s it. So my blood work looked fine as it was taken when all the hormones were up a bit. But over all mine are basically as low as they can go. Do some research, it can be a super handy tool for knowing how to treat your hormones!
Oh that’s promising! I can still move about and do things but just feeling rough doing it. What were your symptoms in the first month if you don’t mind me asking?
