how long have you had it it? I had one put in and reacted badly to it but it can take up to 6 months to settle - I had mine in for 4 and then said it needed to be removed as I was constantly bleeding and in pain.
You know your body best but maybe if you can see if it settles and try it for a few months - I hope it gets better for you
hi I was offered this as a solution and had to get it removed by A & E as I was in so much pain. Don’t put yourself through it if it’s the same for you. They don’t work for everyone. I would see an endo specialist as soon as you can too. Good luck and so sorry you are going through this
What about 'Martha's Rule'? If they are not listening to you, or are denying you surgery to investigate, I would definitely seek someone else. The coil could be causing more harm than good and in the meantime whatever is the initial cause could be getting worse. If it's Endo, this can cause irreversible damage if not found early.
I’ve had mine in for three month. The gynae refused to take mine out because it will settle. I’m having the same symtoms as you. Hopefully going to locals to have it removed today and if they won’t I’m going straight a&e. You know your own body and it’s in your body so if it’s not working for you have it removed. Definitely try get a second opinion. I got told by my gp to send an email to the gynae stating that I wasn’t happy and to either give me a second opinion or discharge me so that my go could refer me to another hospital. Maybe try doing that and see if it gets you anywhere. Sorry you’re going through this and I hope you get some help soon x
I'm sorry to hear you are having so much pain. I finally agreed after years of saying no to my gynae that I would try the mirena last year. My issue was more to do with the impact of the hormones from it. It didn't improve my endo and I was totally exhausted the whole time. To the point I was sleeping 3 hrs during the day constantly as well as 10 hrs a night and still exhausted. After 4 months they wouldn't take it out so I ended up paying to go privately and have it removed. A quick Google search found me a private GP who took it out. Within a week after removal I was a new person. I agree you know your body and there are ways to get it removed that don't involve you seeing your gynae. After 4 months I'd had enough. It cost me a bit but was well worth it.
I hear your pain! But, I'd like to be a voice of (some) hope.
I was in a huge amount of pain when I first sought help and was given the mirena. It was a horrible experience having it fitted and it made things worse... much worse. I was essentially immobile and bleeding for 6 months and about 9 months until the pain really lessened.
BUT THE HOPE! I have spent a blissful almost-2 years period free and pain free.
I actually cancelled my surgery after getting a second opinion (which i feel very lucky to have gotten)
Try not to presume that surgery solves anything. The more research that comes out the more it shows that (unless you have deep endo) the surgery isnt a cure... for me its about pain management and not a (currently) mythical cure
I had the Mirena coil put in in 2013 or so, and i've had no problems. I do have endometriosis pain, it hasn't stopped me having that, but i don't bleed at all (or that could be because i had a 6 month course of menopausal injections, to start the menopause!!!). But i feel sorry for you that your having so many things happen. I'd ask for a 2nd doctor's opinion if i were you. from Val
hi hun I had mine in 2 months ago and I have a lot of discharge which can vary from dark brown to light and occasional bleeding it’s every day… I’ve had a periods which was very painful but it does take time to settle I suppose… I was told to give it 6 months .. overall it has eased my daily endo pain a lot tho…
has anyone checked that it is still in place as it should be? I have stage 4 endo and adenmyosis. Ive attempted to have the mirena fitted twice, both times I’ve experienced extreme pain and on examination it transpires that my body had literally chewed up the mirena and started to expel it. (Both times it was inserted under anesthetic following an op) So please get it checked. Also please find an endo specialist not just a gynaecologist. Good luck!
