Doubts about Lap in 4 days..Help!

Having major anxiety and wobble about my first lap in a few days after my pre op today. I wasn't given bowel prep or any advice for low fibre diet. I have DIE recto vaginal endo, multiple cysts one 5cm, ovaries stuck together, bowel stuck to uterus 1cm at rectum. I thought I would have been given bowel prep fir bowel shave? Also nervous there is no bowel surgeon present. Nurse at pre op said its scheduled for a 1.5 hour procedure does that sound right? It's private, so do they just stop at that time regardless if there's more endo to be excised? Also I have a viral thing sore throat blocked nose but no temp, negative covid test. I'm not sure if I should reschedule anyway and get a second opinion. Any advice greatly appreciated 🙏 hate that I am so undecided with doubts few days before surgery.

Completely normal to feel anxious before surgery, I was exactly the same. I had first laparoscopy last August it had spread to my bowels and bladder with huge cysts on both ovaries. I think 1.5 hours is probably average amount of time , I was told similar but it took a little longer because there was more than expected, they will do what they can to make sure you get the best possible result. The staff will look after you and if you are unsure beforehand you can always ring to double check details if there is anything you need to do to prepare. It's normal to feel nervous, I was so scared, it's a big thing for your body to go through. From my experience and I hope it's the same for you it was totally worth it all, I feel like I've got my life back

Thanks for your reply. So glad it worked well for you. I'm worried the bowel will be more attached than the mri shows which would mean I do need prep and bowel surgeon. Mri said it was less than 1cm but that was 2 months ago it could have gotten worse. I'm so torn about cancelling and getting a second opinion. Hate being this indecisive about such a big decision and doesn't help I have a virus working on me and low BP yesterday 🙈

Hello,

I also had DIE recto/v laparoscopy 6 months ago. I had so many adhesions that it took around 2.5 hours. The surgeon was adamant that I had to take Picolax to clear the bowl. This was in line with what many other surgeons had said that I saw.

I suggest ringing the medical secretary and tell her you need to speak with the surgeon. You have every right to fully understand the procedure before you go in. Being reassured will help with the anxiety. It completely normal to feel like you are. I was a complete reck but in the end it was not as as bad as I imagined it to be. Try and get out side and walk (if you can), it will really help.

Best Wishes xx

Thanks for your reply. Wish I could go walking, ive got an unwell kid off school and a virus myself! Turning out to be the week from hell before this surgery. I wanted to have my house all in orser but its not happened! Glad it wasn't as bad as you thought! Did you have an mri before surgery that showed how much your bowel was attached? How was recovery? Xx

They definitely should stop at the 1 hour and half I went in for an abcess on my ovary and the found I had extensive adhesions and my operation was 2 and half hours. Going private you should get your own room and your be really well looked after. Give yourself as much time as you need after your operation. I had my operation 4 weeks tomorrow and I am still feeling tired.

Thanks, yes I have my own room. I've heard good things about the hospital care. Feeling very nervous especially since I have a virus and feel lousy. They said I'm fit enough to go ahead but im dreading recovery whilst also fighting an infection. Sorry to hear your still tired. How long were you in pain after surgery?
