Medication

I got told last week I have endometriosis even though I haven't had MRI . He's prescribed tablets called Dienogest which I haven't got yet due to hospital pharmacy not having any in stock. Has anyone else had these tablets as I spoke to another gynaecologist that said the side effects are quite bad and she doesn't even prescribe them in her own clinic. Just worried about starting them now. Anyone been on these ? Thanks

From my symptoms . I got referred last June and had the hosp appointment last Sunday. Have you had this medication?

Hey, I take these and have zero side effects and they reduced my symptoms, there’s plenty of studies showing they work ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl... this study also shows limited side effects.

Honestly they were an absolute life line for me. NHS endo consultant told me it was have surgery again or nothing, and then a private endo consultant told me about this medication that NHS didn’t even mention which I was pretty angry about tbh. Obviously everyone’s different but I’m not sure it’s overly helpful for the gynaecologist you mentioned to just write it off based on some people’s negative experiences, especially when there are studies using randomised control trials which is the gold standard evidence base showing the side effects are mostly mild and rare, in the study I sent you the highest occurring side effect happened in 4% of people. There are also several studies that show this, here is another showing less than 10% of people getting any side effects ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Hello,

I was prescribed these 6 months ago and I’ve stopped taking them after 6 weeks as the symptoms were too severe. Mentally they made me feel very down, anxious and angry. I bled everyday and had a lot of pelvic pain from them. Ive tried taking them twice now.

It seems everyone reacts differently to this drug. Some people have no symptoms at all. I hope they work for you x

Oh no that sounds awful . What will they do for you now as this medication is not working for you? X

I've been taking them first for 6 months then stopped and now started again. I don't get any side effects with dienogest but I had very bad side effects with other pills.

It works great for me, stops the everyday pain and the pain during my periods is a lot more manageable (although it seems they stopped now so that's good for me 😂).

Hope it works well for you x
