Coming off Prostap & Tibolone?

Hello all. Wondering if anyone could tell me their experience of coming off a course of Prostap (with or without Tibolone/HRT) please?

If you’ve been through this, can I ask whether you just stop cold turkey? Or is it done gradually?

Do you need to let your gynae know? Or was it just done on your own/with support of GP?

How soon did you get periods back and were they straight back to pre-Prostap pain levels?

If you suffered unpleasant side effects and/or unpleasant menopausal symptoms whilst on the injection, how soon did they improve or did they go away completely afterwards?

I’ve been on these a while, been happy not to have a period, but have now had enough. No hope of a surgery date any time soon, specially while I’m “comfortable” on Prostap (except I’m really not!).

Not sure if I still want the hysterectomy/excision/separation surgery that I’m waiting for. Maybe once I find out how I am without Prostap, it will help me make up my mind!

hi there, I’ve been on and off Prostap a few times. I found Prostap really helpful as it stopped my periods and all of the pain. My periods returned quite fast and the first few months were not too bad. About 4-6 months in I started having really bad flare ups again (as if my body was very angry with me 🥲). I then opted for a full hysterectomy as my quality of life was crap again! We’re all very different so this is just my example. I also had Adenomyosis and that was a bitch 😫. Hope this is helpful to you. Feel free to dm if you have any more questions x

Thanks so much - so helpful to have an example of a real-life experience with this! Something that no doctor, nurse or patient information leaflet can do.

I think I probably do have more questions for you, so there will a message coming over soon 😀

Hi there, I was on Prostap for 6 months but without any add-back HRT. It was bliss for me as it got rid of all my migraines! Hot flushes were full on though :) I just stopped cold-turkey as I was only allowed the six injections. Didn't have to let Gynae know, as the GP was dealing with it all after my laparoscopy. Periods came back within two months I think. Pelvic pain was manageable for several months, nowhere near pre-Prostap levels, but it did build up again.

I did have a few instances of fainting/being quite shaky though, as soon as came off the injections until my hormones settled out . I think because of the change in levels my body was like 'Whoah, don't like this much!'

Side effects of injections stopped straight away for me. After another Lap, they've now put me on Zoladex with Tibolone. Had to stop the Tibolone after a month because of excruciating leg cramps. Can't wait for my hysterectomy. I have what they call a 'frozen pelvis' - everything is just stuck together x

I’m in a very similar situation as you . I have been suffering with chronic pelvic pain for the last 4 years and was diagnosed with endometriosis back in September. I’m coming up to my last month on prostap and have my next gyne appointment next week, not quite sure what the outcome will be I as my pain has returned 😢
