So I've had a private appointment recently at the endometriosis clinic (the NHS have failed me too many times) I'm booked in for excision surgery and the surgeon has suggested having the bowel surgeon there too to remove a 5cm nodule from my bowel. All I can say on the situation is , I am absolutely petrified ! Has anyone had excision surgery and and 'bowel disc resection' what are your experiences please ?

Excision and bowel surgery
Why not contact the Enfometriosus society I believe they can help. Good luck I'm.seeing a colorectal professor and very scared due to endo that has stuck down my bowel.
Hi, I can completely understand- any surgery is a very big thing, even if you’re really unwell and desperately need it. Even if you’ve had surgery before. Specially when they run through the potential risks and complications!
I can’t comment on disc resection, but I have had a bigger bowel surgery due to endometriosis. (Right hemi-colectomy, meaning about half of my colon, including my appendix, was removed and the ends joined back together the same as in a smaller resection.)
I did not have to have a stoma, not even a temporary one, my bowel healed very quickly and started functioning again without too much trouble at all. The main instructions on going home were to eat regular light meals, drink plenty, try to avoid constipation, don’t strain on the loo.
I’m still amazed that bowels can go through such surgeries and carry on their business almost as if nothing has happened!
Anyway… I hope that reading a positive story can help calm your nerves a little. What’s good is that you have a date to be seen, they know you have bowel involvement and have a plan to tackle it. I’m sure you’re in safe hands and I wish you a swift recovery and healthier future xxx
my endometriosis surgery was Friday 6th October so I’m 9days post surgery and my endo had pulled my bowel down and caused a kink. Now it’s been removed it’s been so much easier to go to the bathroom. As scary as it is you’ll feel so much better afterwards. I had it done privately as I was also let down by nhs. You got this hun! Xx
Fab to hear positive stories it really helps did either of you suffer alot of diarreah after the op. As I also have BAD bile acid diarrhea and live on medication or I can't leave the house I can be on the loo 5 hours a day without my meds. I just wouldn't want to end up in a worse place. But I have pain and always on antibiotics so let's see what the professor says. X
Hi persil, I didn’t have lots of diarrhoea either before or after the op. Maybe had it occasionally during the recovery period. My digestion certainly wasn’t perfect straight away, but was still much better than before. I would say my insides were a little sensitive, eg would get gas and/or acid, would get constipated and feel bloated and a little sore. However, these things gradually settled down, I became much more comfortable and both eating and going to the loo became easier. Your colorectal surgeon will take care of you and will ultimately be aiming to improve all your awful symptoms by freeing your bowel. I wish you a speedy recovery and a future where you’re not stuck in the house/ bathroom all the time! Xxx
I’m listed for the same surgery too I am also pertfired as I had sepsis from my diagnostic lap so this one am even more scared off. I don’t mind if I need a stoma that doesn’t bother me it’s just the healing after the op that bothers me. Xx
