Da vinci robot or normal laproscopy?

Hi

I have been to see a specialist. He performs both the Da vinci robotic surgery or the usual laproscopy.

I have heard some good things but unsure as which one to choose.

Does anyone have any info?

Is one better than the other? And is reoccurrence less likely with robotic surgery?

Thank you

the surgeon is less likely to tire with robotic surgery and it’s also great for deep infiltrating endo. I’m having davinci xi robotic surgery this friday. It’s also meant to be quicker recovery apparently. I did attend a zoom session with a bsge consultant and he confirmed that a properly qualified surgeon would be able to do the same job straight stick (standard lap) as with robotic, it’s just easier and more comfort apparently for the surgeon xx

Hi Kieraface

Thank you for replying. Really appreciate it.

If you don't mind me asking are you having surgery in the UK?

Also good luck with your surgery on Friday. I hope you have a good outcome and many years of good health ahead ❤️

Thank you so much! I’m quite nervous tbh! It’s my first endo surgery. Yea, I’m based in the north of England and having it done privately

I understand. I haven't been booked in yet just had the consultation and MRI last week and I am getting anxious. I am going to have it with a surgeon who works in Surrey and London.

Waiting for my mri reports is making me anxious.

Try not to worry too much (I know easier said than done) just think finally getting relief from this horrid pain ❤️

It’s very much your choice as to what surgery you wanna have but they would usually recommend the best option based on your endo and your circumstances/situation. If you can maybe check out endo talks with specialists. The hospital where I had my MRI do zoom/teams events that talk about endo and there is a q&a at the end too. Maybe worthwhile having a look on fb at some private hospitals and seeing if they have anything like that - it was free to register and answers general questions based on certain criteria - I asked this question and the answer I gave you was what he told me. Good luck with your treatment x

Hiya,

I have had a long talk with two surgeons who use the robot. They both said they can see more endo and that the op is much easier using it. Apparently when a surgeon does the op with the normal kit they watch what they are doing through a camera which shows them everything but in a mirror image. So everything they see is opposite and this can really affect their perception of depth etc. With the Da Vinci they instaed see everything normally but via the camera in more detail (I think but don't know that is is magnified).

Understanding this and having talked with a couple of surgeons who use it regularly I think the results would be better with the robot. Just think how hard it is to cut your hair while looking in the mirror......BUt the important thing is to get a really good surgon and it sounds like you have made good choices if you at a BSGE centre and they have offerened you this kind of choice they must be really good.It sounds like you are in safe hands. Good luck I hope it all goes well. x

Hiya,

Robotic everytime. I'm 11 weeks post dull hysterectomy due to stage 4 endometriosis. I was home after 3 hours out of surgery.

Recovery had its bad moments but I'm recovering fasting than 2 previous laps in normal theatre.

Good luck

X
