Spoke to surgeonSo my surgeon rang yesterday and explained why they aborted the hysterectomy on Tuesday. He said my cervix was fused to my bowel and possibly left ovary and my rectum had been pulled down too. He said it looked to be endometriosis that had been there a long, long time and they wouldn't touch it. I asked what the plan is and he does not recommend surgery as I have no pain and probably had this for 20 years. He said he could refer me to a specialist endometriosis hospital but as I'm 50 (god they make you feel bloody ancient at 50!). He didn't think they'd operate as I would go into menopause soon and things could improve. He also said bowel surgery tends to lead to more surgery. So, he is pushing Zoladex injection which he says will shrink the fibroids and stop the flooding by turning off my ovaries. I'm already on HRT so he thinks the side effects could be minimal and after 12 months he says my ovaries my go into menopause. I'm scared of taking something that affects your brain. Both my mum and grandma had Alzheimers (mum's started at 60) so I'm always really worried about it. I have high cholesterol which I'm on statins for and the more I read the more I think this is a hormonal thing too. I'd love to hear from anyone who has taken Zoladex and been on HRT. How did you get on? Would you recommend it? Thanks so much- this group has been a life saver this week!
Zoladex and HRT: Spoke to surgeonSo my... - Endometriosis UK
Zoladex and HRT
I have had zoladex injections, and they gave me HRT to take at the same time to protect my bones, and it was a game changer for me, no periods = no more heavy bleeding (no bleeding at all!) + no pain. My mood was better, I felt great! Obviously everyone has a different experience with it.
I do see what the surgeon is saying about the surgery, it gets very complicated when the bowel is involved.
You could try zoladex for a month or two if you get the once a month injections, and if you don't like it you can stop.
I was a test case for zoladex 30 years ago I was on the injections for 20 years until my hysterectomy. I wasn’t in zolodex and hrt but my sister is as she had breast cancer twice so far doing really well my only thought with hrt is that it can as in my case cause the endometriosis to grow.
Again when I was told I had endo it wasn’t very well known back then mine still grew both on zoladez and again in hrt the only thing zoladex helped me with is painful periods and stopping my periods and pain
