Hey everyone, I’ve just been for my pre op appointment all went well but I asked the nurse wether I could have my copper coil taken out and replaced with a Mirena during surgery and he said I’d have to speak to the surgeon about it on the day of surgery. This seems really last minute and kinda stresses me out, I just wondered if anyone else had it arranged on the day of surgery? Thank you!x

Hi. I didn’t swap, but I did have a mirena coil fitted during lap. They asked me as I was being pushed down to theatre if I wanted one fitted. Very last minute decision, but glad I did have it. I don’t see the swap being a problem. Good luck 👍 xx
Thank you so much for replying! Puts me at ease knowing it was last minute for you too haha. Yeh I don’t see why it would be an issue, it just makes sense to do it all in one rather than have to go though the swap after I’ve had my lap xx
Hi Livy, I can’t see it being a problem. I always have my coil changed if I’m already under. It’s a good time to do it! My Mirena coil has changed my life! Go for it! x
Thank you for replying, that’s so good to hear I’m so pleased for you! I’m hoping that my body will get on with mirena as it got on well with the copper coil🤞🏻xx
Yes, I did. However my own experience of the Mirena was not a good one. I suffered severe clinical depression while I had one, and only improved once it was removed. That is just my personal experience though, I understand it works well for many people.
Thank you for replying, it’s really hard because I hear so many mixed reviews on mirena but I suppose I don’t know until I try it and if it doesn’t suit me I’ll just have to find something else x
Hi Liv, I had one put in the same time as my lap. I would recommend whenever it needs replacing to go to a sexual health clinic. They fit them all the time and make it more bearable.
Heyy, yeh I currently have the copper coil and had that fitted at my local sexual health clinic, they are so lovely and know exactly what they’re doing! If there isn’t the option to have mine switched during surgery I’ll have to go to the clinic and get it done there x
