pain in the bottom…literally 😳

I haven’t had endo on the bowel diagnosed as yet as waiting for another lap but I do have a lot of symptoms. One particularly bad one recently has been pains in my bottom especially when sitting ( I call it butt lightening) ☺️🤦‍♀️. A bit embarrassing but painful. Does anyone else get these pains too? Especially those who have endo on the bowel confirmed?

Hi, I only had bowel endo confirmed a few weeks back during a lap and I can confirm I have had the shooting pains from the devils pitchfork!! Far from pleasant, but do seem to have reduced post op 🙏🏻Hope you're not waiting too long for your next procedure.

Hi, I have cramps right there, but I don't have endometriosis in the anus but right next to it, the inflammation of the endometriosis tissue irradiates that area, I haven't tried but the doctor told me that pelvic physiotherapy helps.

yes, my MRI in October showed Endo in bowel area. And I have been suffering with pain for 8 years. For the last 2 years it was unbearable . Ended up with cocodamol. But it takes an hour to start working . When I asked GP about oramorph, he said “you don’t need it” 😶

Consultant prescribed Prostap, so it helped with pain. Waiting for hysterectomy now.

I get the shooting/stabbing pains in my bum hole like someone is stabbing a sharp stick up there. When I had my first lap they found endo on the rectum and I was pain free in this area for a few years after my first surgery. Pain has returned now and actually kept me awake last night as it was like it for 15 minutes, so I’m presuming it’s grown back around the rectum. I didn’t have any on my bowel though

Hi there, sorry to hear your pain is back! Can I ask what method of removal they used? It’s seems people have different options for removal in that area. My pain is around that area and I feel I will probably get this diagnosis too.

They used diathermy. I think it took 3 hours to remove all the endo patches but it did give me relief for a good couple of years. I was also passing menstrual blood from my rectum when on my period due to the endo growing there. Keep pushing for answers and I hope you get some relief soon. Feel free to ask me anything x

Hi thank you so much for the information! and well done for getting through and recovering. Yes I had blood from the rear one time when on my period so I thought it is probably be in that area.

From looking up diathermy, I can see that must be some form of ablation. I am trying to persuade my surgeon through NHS to use excision as this has a far better outcome in removing it all but he says it depends on the situation, it's very frustrating. I will need to see what the diagnosis is anyway.

Can I ask how long it took you to recover from the diathermy? Was there anything you did to aid recovery?

I too wanted excision but they wanted to use diathermy.

I would definitely recommend lots of peppermint immediately after surgery as the trapped air can cause some horrible pains especially if it moves to your chest or shoulder, peppermint helped me a lot. In regards to recovery do not over do it, I did a gentle 15 minute walk once a day then lots of rest, no lifting etc, and remember once the external wounds have healed after 2 weeks and you’re feeling loads better, that you’re still healing internally so allow 6 weeks before resuming normal day to day routine/activities x

Thank you that is extremely helpful! I will definitely do all these things. I hope the returning pain gets resolved. 🙏🏻

I have been diagnosed with deep endo on bowel and waiting for surgery. I do experience pain in my butt nearly everyday. Sharp pain as well as dull ache. I am always constipation as well.

I have this pain intermittently and waiting for a diagnostic laparoscopy too. I hope you get seen very soon, it’s horrible waiting 🙏🏻

I had this pain as well, and I thought for sure I had bowel endo. I did not get a confirmed endo diagnosis from my lap 😔. But my sister (who also has similar pain) did get positive endo diagnosis because she thankfully had a great surgeon who knew to cut out endo that didnt look obvious and probably would have been missed by other docs.

However, we both got hysterectomies and were pleasantly surprised that it helped the sitting/butt pain.

Something to note since I didn't have endo removed but got significant relief from the hysterectomy. Everyones body is different and even the experts in this field have a limited understanding of all thats going on. Expectations are rough but even if you don't get the answers you are hoping for, it doesn't mean you are wrong ❤️ Your pain is valid.

I hope you can find some relief 💕

Feel free to DM me if you want to know more.

You’re definitely not alone in this. I had similar pain on sitting down and standing up. Also, shooting/stabbing pains in my bum whenever I needed to empty my bowels which would get so strong near my period that it would make me jump from my seat. Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night with a much milder but annoying pain there and only painkillers would help me go back to sleep.

Turned out I had endo and adhesions on my rectum and bowel which were removed during a laparoscopy. Still not feeling 100% pain free but it’s way way better. Wishing you good luck for your next lap!

Look up Proctalgia fugax. If it isn’t endo it could be this. Awful thing.

Me too. Bowel endo diagnosed by lap in 2008. Had 3rd lap 4 years ago where they removed lesions from my rectum. The pain has now returned. It's exactly as you describe...I say it's like I'm being stabbed in the bottom. I find not sitting for too long is best and then gentle walking when the pain strikes which is easier said than done but does seem to help.
