Is it normal to have fairly heavy bleeding after a hysterectomy?

Hi all - it is now 18 days post hysterectomy and I went back to my surgeon last week (7 days ago) as I was bleeding quite a bit and feeling sick. I had an infection and was given antibiotics, however I have now finished the dosage and I am still bleeding pretty heavily; like a normal period really and the blood is red, not pink. I have also started to feel a bit faint.

I will contact my surgeon tomorrow, however I just wanted to check if anyone had experienced anything similar? I also had endometriosis shaved from my pelvic area and bowel, therefore I am not sure if this is the cause also…

I had a lap husterectomy last week, nurse said if I had a bleed anything like a normal period to go to A&E, but I guess also depends on type of surgery you had? That said you’ve seen your surgeon already, so I’m assuming they weren’t overly concerned by the bleeding they had seen.

I hope you’re okay, must be really scary! Have you heard back from your surgeon yet? x

Yeah - they didn’t seem overly concerned when I saw them before . I am seeing my surgeon tonight though and he is going to do bloods and arrange a scan.
