hi everyone,

I am considering going private, tired of the long wait times for the NHS. Please , Anyone have a rough estimate of how much private consultation & procedure costs?

Thanks

Hi, this will vary dependent on what private hospital you go to. Go on to endometriosis-uk.org/ and look up the specialists they advise in your area. I went with a nhs gynaecologist privately, and it was a waste of money for my laparoscopy, I’m now having to have it again, but with a specialist and waiting on NHS as don’t have the funds this time around. I’m on prostap and HRT whilst I wait. Make sure you do your research x

I was £5,500 for consultation, surgery (laparoscopy), follow up Appointment. I had 1 overnight in hospital.

Hope that helps. That was in 2019.

You can have a private consultation (mine was £200, and then go back onto NHS list for surgery x

Hi, I went for a private consultation abd it cost me £300. They advised me that the actual procedure would be approx £3100. So what they done after I went for my private consultation I'd they wrote to the head of the hospital where I was on the waiting list and got ne experidited to the top of the waiting list to prevent me from having to pay the charge of the procedure. I then rang every week to chase up my appointment and get seen pretty quick.

I am definitely going to take a page from your book. It’s so annoying that we have to go through all of this. Thank you!

It cost me 8000 but I had a bowel surgeon and a gyane surgeon present. But really do check out the surgeon carefully. The best place to find honest feedback for a surgeon is on a Facebook group for endo sufferers, I think Lindle on here can conncet you.

Every single surgeon advertises that they are the best/leading / most successful gynae surgeon in the UK and they all put positive testamonials that make them look great. Nanncy's nook recommends some surgeons who have got repeted very bad feedback when you talk to former patients so don't look there.

Surgeons at BGSCE centres are meant to be better as the centre will do more checks but Lindl'es Facebook site was the only place patients seem genuinely allowed to speak about the experiences honestly. About 3 or 4 surgeons seem to get really good genuine feedback and several get extremely bad reviews regularly so ask Lindle about this group.

Wow, that is really good. Glad to know the nhs can be fast too. I’ve been on waiting list for more than a year now and unfortunately my symptoms don’t seem to be improving. I wish you all the best and hope it goes really well!

I had mine in May last year and it was a bit less than £7000 with endo excision, removal of both tubes and left ovary. Overnight stay at the hospital and a follow up appt 4 weeks later. The experience was exactly the same as in the NHS (my dr used to be an nhs dr and I had my first surgery in the nhs, same hospital, the year before).

Hallo, one thing to check is whether the price includes the hospital fees - they should give a price of using the consultant (consultation, laparoscopy) plus scans and/or other diagnostics, plus the use of the hospital (operating theatre, hospital bed etc).

It was a few years ago, but we called the specialist we knew on Tuesday, we flew to Rome on Thursday. Saw the surgeon on Thursday afternoon and they operated on the Friday. One night in hospital (nurses were nuns) and the rest of the week in a nearby hotel. Cost of hospital, surgeons (bowel specialist on hand and needed) etc (not flight or hotel) £8000. But was an exceptional experience.

Hi, I know I'm a little late but if you go private for a consultaion and mention your symptoms and wanting laparoscopy most gynes also do nhs work on the side. After 5 years of pain I had 1 appointment and she offered to do a laparoscopy for me via NHS and I have my lap tomorrow. It may be worth going private for a consultation then asking for a referral to your local gp practice so it is sent on the NHS
