I have a laparoscopy booked for 21st march after 5 years of awful periods and finally going private and I am so scared, both of the procedure (I've never even had a general anesthetic before) and if they DON'T find anything that I'll feel like i've been making up how bad the pain is and overreacting. Any words of wisdom or advice would be great!

I’ve had a scan and it hasn’t shown anything and yes it is x
don’t be scared of the procedure - general anaesthetic actually feels quite nice (I think anyway 😆) just feels like a lovely sleep! I’ve had it 4 times! Afterwards you do feel bloating where they put air in you, but it’ll soon pass. The doctors and nurses are amazing too. You’ll be fine.
I genuinely think if they don’t find anything, then that’s good ❤️ you’d rather that then stage 4 endo. Good luck and I hope it goes well x
I had the worst migraine the morning of my surgery and despite one of the nurses giving me medication for it it just refused to go away. So, I actually really looked forward to the general anaesthetic haha. When I woke up there was no sign of a migraine which was amazing. However, the first time I got out of bed and walked around the room I started to feel like I was going to be sick and faint. And I previously knew that it's just a side effect of the anaesthetic but at that particular moment I didn't think of that and it freaked me out. It's worth bearing that in mind. All in all for me it wasn't as horrible as I expected.
It's okay to be nervous, I was too, but I guess the important thing to remember is that you'll be surrounded by a whole team of experts who will be looking after you both during and after the operation. And if they don't find anything I know it might not be the best of news but on the plus side at least endo can be ruled out and other avenues for why you've felt unwell can be explored. Is it just a diagnostic laparoscopy or would they remove any disease they find?
Hope it goes well and fingers crossed you get the outcome you want!
hi, l had lap surgery last December and was not as scary as l had thought. There was no need for a pre med tablet this was approximately 9 am, my attendant nurse was superb and went with myself, the anaesthetist and my surgeon to pre op room where l had a drip canular put into the back of left hand and then told to breathe steadily into the oxygen mask, they said l should count to 12 but only managed 8, the next thing l knew l was waking up back on the ward at about 5pm.
I had no post op gas pain as the anaesthetist had exorcised it all before l was returned to the ward.
Post pain was almost nil only a tiny bit sore in the navel, the anaesthetist had also given me local anaesthetic injections close to each incision.
Hope your journey is a similar experience and if you have any worries on the day please discuss them with your attendant nurse, he or she will gladly talk you through everything.
hello, same here I am booked in for my first lap the day before you! After a two year wait on the list! I have the same fears that they won’t find anything and make out it’s all in my head! X
good luck!! I’ve been telling myself thay even if they don’t find anything it doesn’t negate allll tne pain I’ve had over years and all the cancelled plans and leaking and time off work - and ruling something out can be helpful too! Good luck xx
definitely! I think with the waiting lists being so long it’s all the build up to this point that can cause these anxieties. I hope your surgery goes well and you get some answers! Xxx
