advise pls!! Hrt reaction on endo

please can I ask some advise? I paid for a private hysterectomy nearly 4 yrs ago due to yrs and yrs of endo pain. I have kept away from hrt as I was so poorly and didn’t want to start the pain off again as i still have endo in the bowel and other areas. Due to menopause symptoms not really under control the menopause clinic told me to try oestrogen gel and progesterone tablets of which I have been in for 3 wks. This has caused pain in the left side of my pelvis. Will this settle down if I stick with the hrt ? Or if it gets too much and I stop will the pain disappear or does it work that once it’s started it will stay like this. Any advice would be great. Many thanks

I have just reached 5 weeks of HRT - I was told by my doctors that it will take around 6-8 weeks to reach a therapeutic level in my system.

I did have twinges of pain in my left side but I think it's nerve pain from my surgeries rather than Endometriosis.

The HRT oestrogen can aggravate any endo that is in our system. The progesterone can try to suppress the oestrogen. It's going to be confusing for our bodies to try to understand what the medication should be doing. We are asking it to absorb the oestrogen and take away our menopausal symptoms but then we are asking the progesterone to suppress some of the oestrogen so it doesn't worsen the endo.

I have liaised with my doctor via email, clearly written what I was experiencing with the HRT and for their advice. My menopausal symptoms are really minor now and the pain is certainly subsiding so you may just need to give it a bit longer for it all to balance out, but please let your doctor know anyway :)

I had some weird one sided pelvic twinges and my body tried to have a period when I first started combined HRT. I was absolutely terrified of my wall climbing evil pain returning. I’m on twice weekly oestrogen patches and nightly progesterone pills (lowest dose) It’s scary for us endo ladies to experiment with HRT but my menopause symptoms were so dire I had to try something. I have my next appointment in a month with a private specialist who was brilliant and she said you have to wait around three months for things to settle down. Fingers crossed I’m okay now with fewer symptoms and zero pain and my quality of life has improved dramatically. I’m even thinking of asking if she might “up my dose” I’m getting cocky! Good luck. Get some decent advice. Everyone is individual and what works for one doesn’t work for another. Nina.
