Please can you advise regarding someone who has had endometriosis rather badly can safely take any form of HRT?
My daughter suffered from severe endo since she was 14 years old. After having many operations she was finally fitted with a Mirena Coil at the age of 40 and eventually this was quite successful. However she has had the present one in now for approx 9 years and the doctor says she cannot have another one as she is 53 and showing all the signs of the menopause and needs HRT.
Naturally we are very worried about the effects this will have on her endometriosis! Can you advise?
Thank you.

I’m just about to start Bijuve, it’s a combination HRT tablet, fairly new to the market. A gynaecologist recommended it and said it would be ok even though I’d had Endo quite badly. I’ve no idea yet though how well it’ll work or not, literally picked it up today. Thought I’d mention it so you can research
Hi yes it’s on the NHS, I had to ask though for it. Nurse wasn’t aware of it. Originally when I was told about it the product wasn’t, only private. Not sure how long it’s been on the NHS
I am on Evorel conti patches and I have endometriosis and adenomyosis and they do help with the menopausal symptoms however they have given me new problems such as weight gain, massive boobs. For me it’s about monitoring it and maybe changing things that don’t work x
I would be very careful, I have seen a lot of posts on here from women who started HRT and their endo came back. Taking anything with eostrogen is going to increase the chances of that. Maybe go to a menopuase specialist and ask your gynae. Good luck.
You both might find the information that’s available on Dr Louise Newson’s Balance website helpful. It covers all manner of menopause concerns including both endometriosis and adenomyosis as well as non HRT support. I’ve found it a great resource 🩷
Hello, Unfortunately your daughters womb is nolonger needing the coil.
HRT with mine brought back the Endo symptoms.
There are other drugs for Endo that a Endo Specialist only may allow but probably only 3yrs
The use of several antidepressant are used for menopause which is difficult to cope with.
Your daughter probably already has changed her diet over the yrs eg contain Histamines like Melon, or Avocado etc. Also foods containing Estrogen like Soya. Myself I cut out wheat/Lactose as my stomach/bowel couldn't cope.
To help with pain/inflammation of Endo daily I take antidepressant, Antihaistmes and Ibrophine.
Unfortunately a Hysto Op probably won't solve her issues cos of Scar Tissue, Adhesions. What comes with a Hysto with a person who has got Endo is other complications related to Bowel/Bladder in Op and increased damage to their function after.
I feel you should get to see a good Endo Specialist in a Endo Clinic there's one in W12 if that's local.
for any endo sufferer combined hrt is best bet. All have a slight risk of causing endo to deactivate but combined has the progesterone to balance out the oestrogen effects in endo whilst giving the benefits too.
If your gp practice doesn’t have a menopause specialist I’d ask for referral to menopause clinic. Or if funds allow go to a private menopause specialist for advice o. What to try first.
