Had surgery three weeks ago

Hi ladies,So had my endo surgery three weeks ago.It went really well after a bit of a scare.

Both my endometriomas had burst due to waiting over 18months for my surgery. I was on Liquid Morphine, Dihydrocodeine slow release , baclofen, naproxen, buscopan, cyclizine, lansoprazole, the list goes on about 14 different medications during that wait.

I am trying to wind down my pain medication gradually to see what effect the surgery has had.

The side effects- withdrawal - due to the amount of time I was on these is quite severe.

Has anyone been in a similar situation after surgery?

Are there any things that can help make the weening off medication a bit more comfortable as I am struggling 😕 at the minute?

Thank you all in advance

Best wishes

xx

You should taper off really slowly. It depends how my mg opium you were per day how many times did you take it per day.

I agree and I have found sometimes doctors underestimate how long you need to withdraw from meds. Take it as slowly as you need to -depends on the dose and the type of medication of course.

Eg if you are taking it four times a day go down to three but still space them out. If that is too much you can check if a lower dose tablet is available e.g 50mg so instead of cutting it by 100mg so you can just drop 50mg a day to start with. Another thing to try when you are down to one dose is taking it every other day for a week or so before stopping it.

Also can help to just stop one medication at a time, so if you are having problems you know what is causing it. I would expect the morphine and dihydrocodeine to be the hardest ones, they are quite powerful and addictive.

Good news that you have had your surgery though!
