I was due to have a procedure today (13/10/22)which I arrived at 7am my due time to be at the surgical admissions lounge. I had my pre op appointment the week before ( but due to blood testing errors I had to also return a second time on the Friday as they had forgotten to do a certain blood test that was needed for the operation to go ahead . I had a Call yesterday afternoon confirming that I was still attending the procedure today. Which I confirmed I'd be there.
I was all set to have my laparoscopy this morning for my stage 4 endometriosis I had arrived and was already in the lounge only be to told it was now cancelled as they were no beds available, and it wouldn't happen today. I have been on the waiting list for the procedure since April 2020 which is 2 years and 6 months of wating time, I understand that with covid and that the NHS is stretched thin that there is delays however this is still a very long wait time regardless ; especially when you are in pain and with an illness that can get progressively worse. I wasn't told any more information todayApart from 'there is no beds' and now I don't know what is happening or when my operation will happen.
I had to try and contact various phone numbers on the way home from the hospital this morning when Been sent away to try and get some answers - I am now totally in the dark about what is happening and I have no idea when the date might be.For this operation that was cancelled I took a lot of time off work as I'm self-employed( therefore no sick pay) and turned down a lot of work in prep for the date. I also had childcare in place.. now I'm going to have to do that all again, but I am completely in the dark and I'm unsure what work I can take on incase it crosses with the new date.
Feeling zonked and drained!
