Mirena coil and nausea.

Hi, I've just had the mirena fitted, two weeks ago, I'm nearly 50 and,my periods are ridiculous! But the last few days I've felt so sick! This is not a nice feeling at all and,I wondered roughly how long this lasts for and if any other ladies have suffered with it. If I can persevere its got to be good for me as I'm too old for some contraception and I'm kinda hoping it helps my periods! Thanks in advance ladies xx

When I got my mirena in I started getting terrible headaches and nausea. It lasted for 8 weeks. I was on the verge of getting it removed and suddenly all symptoms stopped. Hopefully yours will too. x

I had a mirena at 54, and it was a lifesaver! It took about 4 months for it to settle down, and for my periods to go from frequent and excruciating, to just a painless dribble very month. By 6 months nothing, and so it stayed for 6 years when I had it removed, and okay since - about 8 months. Best thing I ever did, I cannot understand why it was not offered at my first lap - aged 37. I would try to stick with it, if you can - give it a fair trial.

Good luck.

Thanks ladies! I've never had a mirena before but my periods are taking over my life! Irregular, heavy, having to wear a night pad during the day kinda heavy and leaving me weary miserable and in a mess! It seems like the ideal solution but I've read some horror stories and just wanted to hear something positive too I guess! Its a first time for me with hormone's as I've never used the pill but this nausea oh my! Its like morning sickness and after six children no more of that thanks! Xx

I had a mirena coil fitted in January during a laparoscopy and treatment for endo - it's the best thing I ever did. It did take a few months to settle down, and initially I was in the most horrendous pain. But it did settle down and has made a massive difference to my life. If you can do try to persevere, I know everyone is different but if you're anything like me it will be more than worth it! Good luck :)

Thankyou! My nausea tends to be more when my tummy's empty. But it doesn't put me off my food at least! The cramping has stopped now and its only just over a fortnight since I had it fitted!
