Little about me om 31 and had painful heavy periods for years, I was on the combined pill for years. Got to the point of just living with it as Dr's told me it was all part of being a woman.
Fast forward to the begining of this year and the pain got worse and I was having multiple and long periods... Longest to date was 33 days and I'd had enough so went to gp who sent me for test and referred me gynecologist
So I went to see a gynecologist last week and she suspects I have endometriosis and suggested the mirena coil.
My question is how has this worked for people? (I know we are all different)
Also how painful did people find the insertion. I'm anxious as when I had my smear this year as well as taking swabs I found the examination painful. I think it's the spectrum that causes the most pain
Thanks for listening / reading

the insertion of a marina coil is uncomfortable however not painful my only advice with it is to ensure that the nurse who inserts it makes sure that the little cords that remain by your cervix are cut properly or it makes certain activities uncomfortable. most people take a while to settle on it. i never did it did not work for me but i have heard some people saying how amazing it is for them. its worth a try.
i hope it helps you and i wish you all the best at the start of your endo journey.
I haven’t tried one personally yet (am currently waiting on an appointment to book one in) but for my cousin it’s been life changing. It stopped her periods completely and she says it has taken away 90% of her pain for the 5 years she’s had it. I know it won’t work for everyone in this way, but it seems worth the try for me. I think if everything is OK after the first 6 weeks then it should be all good until it needs changing again. In terms of insertion pain, I’ve been recommended to take ibuprofen and paracetamol prior to having it done. My friend is a nurse and has warned that it can be pretty bad for some women. If you’re really worried about this I know you can opt to have it put in under anaesthetic, but the waiting list can be very long for this. I also found the smear very painful so I can completely empathise with your worries, but I’m hoping the benefits will make it worth it. Hope all goes well for you x
Thank you for your reply oceandaisies.I know how you feel waiting to get an appointment.
I rang my Gp and they don't fit the coil there so rang sexual health and they refuse to fit it as its been medically advised and not from a contraception point of view 🙈 so had to ring the gyno up again for them to pass it on to consultant to sign off to be able to get an appointment
So glad it has helped your cousin and fingers crossed we both get the same positive outcome.
I know the pain would be worth it if it helps even a little bit to ease the symptoms it's just getting that bit over and done with first. I was never phased with a smear test until this year when the pain happened in examination.
Hope we all get sorted quickly and everything works in our favour xx
