Can anyone give me their experiences of the Mirena coil for Endo pain, I didn't want to consider this because of bad experiences my friends have had on it but im starting to feel like ive exhausted all avenues now and other than another laproscopy I feel like I might not have any choice but to try it , can anyone share their experiences , did it improve the pain , any side effects etc? TIA

Mirena Coil for Endometrioses
Hello
I wasn't keen on the idea of the mirena either, but after my op the pill I was on was discontinued, and I'd already been on a bunch so wasn't much left to try.
I had it put in under GA, I pass out at smears etc so no way I could be awake for it getting put in.
Honestly for the first 6 weeks it was hell pain wise! Worse than endo pain, but that might also have been due to how long it lasted. To the point I had to have an ultrasound to check it hadn't perforated my uterus, it hadn't but it was a real concern from my Dr.
But after 6 weeks it started to settle and things got better quickly after that. Around 3months after no pain, I don't get a period, I get the odd day where I may need to wear a panty liner but that's it. I get the odd twinge here and there but nothing like before, don't have up touch my prescription drugs or anything for those twinges.
I'm glad I had it and I persevered but I was so close to having it out. After the ultrasound to check its position I told myself I'd give it 4 weeks and if it wasn't easing I'd get it out. About 3 weeks later it stated to ease, I was still in alot of pain but not as much and it continued to decrease.
It was the best thing I ever did getting the mirena coil. I’m just about to have my third one changed as symptoms have just started to come back. It’s been 4yrs, - normally it’s 5yrs between changing. However I’m peri menopausal so it needs changing sooner. It does take a while to settle, but worth every minute - for me anyway. Try not to concern yourself with others horror stories, we are all individuals and react differently, it might just be a god send for you. Good luck☺️xx
Hi. I have tried the mirena 4 times over the years but unfortunately for me it’s the same result stabbing pain in what feels like my cervix when a period would of been due and as I also get horrendous ovulation pain it didn’t stop that either. On the plus side I did stop bleeding after 6 months that’s how long it took to settle down but the other pains remained and I tried it for over a year each time.
I had the mirena I had continued pain even though insertion went as planned but I also had severe bleeding for over 7 weeks which required removal of the mirena and meds to stop the bleeding. This left me anemic and requiring an iron infusion.
But remember everyone is different and everyone’s body reacts differently to hormones so what works for one doesn’t always work for others.
I had the marina coil, I still bleed every two weeks for two weeks but no way near the heavy flow I had before also I only got period pain every 2nd or 3rd period and again was no way near the pain I had experienced before. I felt mine less effective about the 4 year mark so I would keep an eye out for that if you choose to go for it.
As a post hysterectomy woman now I wish I could go back to the marina as I suffer now more then I ever did as the endometriosis is back and I can’t even have a marina!
Good luck x
