Diagnosis Question-anyone had a lap that found nothing?

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone on here has had a lap and the surgeon said they found no trace. And then later you found out actually they missed it?

I've now gone for a private consultation and the consultant is convinced that it was probably missed or that I could have deep infiltrating endo. His theory for this is because there was a real lack of detail of where they actually checked in the surgery notes and given my family history and symptoms he feels it lines up with endo. I've tried talking to the hospital to find our if the surgeon was a specialist but the ward secretary was not very helpful and simply stated "All gynes know what endo looks like".

I'm having a private MRI with contrast this week.

I just wanted to know if anyone has had issues of having a lap and being told it's not endo, then later finding out it actually is?

Thank you for reading 💞

Ct scan is better than an MRI they give you some fluid by injection to locate exactly where it is obvs if you have it.

Yes, I had 3 laps over 15 year period and only found out I had Endo post hysterectomy for fibroids..when the surgeon told me … I had miscarriages, a ruptured ectopic and years of misdiagnoses!

I was told for years I had IBS

The scans I eventually had in 2018 showed up the fibroids which enabled me to get a full hysterectomy.

Just get a second opinion

Morning!

Sorry to hear what you’ve been through. I had a similar experience, first lap showed nothing and my symptoms got worse. Less than two years later I had a MRI which showed endo and a second lap where it was removed and my uterus and bowel were separated. I’m pretty sure that all that endo didn’t just grow in under 2. years but I’m not a doctor, I just have to have faith in them 😂.

That sounds incredibly frustrating!Did you have this all done through the NHS?

If you don't mind me asking, how are you now ?

I had both done privately but the first time I didn’t research properly and went with a gynae who said she had experience with endo. Second time I went with the endometriosis clinic and that was fantastic for me. My surgery was in December and I’ve felt so much better. This month though I’ve had bad pain on my period but I used to be in pain basically everyday so it’s improved my quality of life massively!!

Hello. So sorry. I feel your frustration. I had a negative laparoscopy yesterday, after having to had three others over the years that did find and remove endo. Now I'm feeling very confused and wondering whether to try to get an MRI to see whether it picks up any deeper tissue issues.Hope your get some answers soon.
