Desogestrel back and leg pain

Hi Everyone,

I've started taking desogestrel as treatment for endometriomas and fibroids. I've only been taking it for a couple of weeks but I'm getting terrible back and leg pain every morning. It wears off a bit during the day but comes back in the evening. Also I'm having to get up every night to go to the toilet as I wake up feeling uncomfortable, this then usually brings on the back pain. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this and if it wears off? I'm having trouble getting a Dr's appointment so could really do with some advice. I'm not sure whether to carry on taking it.

Thanks for reading, any advice would be much appreciated xx

Can you get an telephone message to your prescriber via medical secretaries with your symptoms and question? Your doctor really is the one who needs to advise. Best wishes

hi, I know this is an old thread but hopefully you see this message. I’ve been on desogestrel for just over a month, and for the past few weeks I’ve been woken up by a deep, crushing lower back pain early in the morning (after around 6 hours of sleep). I cannot get comfortable at all until I get up and walk around for a bit, and can’t get back to sleep so I’m exhausted all the time. I didn’t take the pill yesterday but it still woke me this morning, I don’t know for sure if it is the pill but I’ll keep off it and see how it goes. It’s not my mattress, I’ve even tried putting a pillow between my knees to no avail. Once the pain is there I’m not able to get back to sleep. I usually need 8-9 hours sleep to function but this wakes me up after around 6. Just wondered if this sounded like your experience and if it disappeared when you came off the pill? Thanks x

Hi, I came off it in the end due to bleeding and those symptoms went away. They may settle down for you but along with the other issues I was having I didn't feel able to stay on it.I would contact your dr if it continues for too much longer for some advice.

Hope that helps x
