Hospital checklist-for tomorrow!

Hi everyone. I've got my first lap tomorrow! Does anyone have some 'must haves' or even basics to take to hospital? Really not too sure what I need. They said it will just be day surgery, but is it worth taking an overnight bag?

Also, has anyone else had their NHS appointment outsourced to a private hospital? I've no idea how things might be different at a private hospital, do you get your own room etc? Any advice much appreciated ☺️

I've had a few laps and think it's worth throwing in an emergency change of underwear and toothbrush in case of an overnight stay, but I've never taken a full overnight bag (and also never had to stay overnight - I just take extras for peace of mind!)

Other than that, I've taken a power bank, my phone, my kindle, dressing gown (when I was told to - in one hospital they gave me one!) and slippers.

Good luck tomorrow x

Also, my first lap was NHS but in a private hospital - it was nice, but as I was in for day surgery I didn't get my own room. My second lap was private, in a different hospital, and there was a room for me - but again, I was day surgery so it didn't really matter anyway!

Hi, most laprascopies are just a day case so you shouldn't stay over night most of the time, but I'd just say take a book or something to do, because if your mid way through the theatre list you could be waiting a while (I waited 6 hours from arrival to theatre cause I was last on the morning list) could take your own snacks too, because before you leave they will want you to have had something to eat, so just incase they don't have anything you like, I'd say stay away from sandwiches, personally my mouth was super dry after, and it was hard to swallow, things like yogurts, fruit etc is great though :)

Comfy clothes for going home in (something with an elastic waste band).

Comfy knickers and Sanitary towels.

Toothbrush and Toothpaste for after the anesthetic as my mouth is always incredibly dry.

Mints or sweets for afterwards again because my mouth is always soo dry!

Phone charger.

Book or magazines.

Peppermint Capsules (usually the ones from Holland and Barretts), these aren't essential for taking to hospital but the sooner you can take them the better for the trap air pain you get (honestly these were a god send).

Most of my surgeries have been done NHS in a private hospital. I have always had my own room and usually are only in for a few hours afterwards (once you have eaten, had a wee and your obs are okay they send you on your way). Only had to stay in once due to low blood pressure.

Fingers crossed all goes well, take care 🥰
