I’m due to have a hysterectomy but have not had any information or discussion how this surgery is to take place or what to expect or how to prepare and how to aid recovery. Is this normal?
I have conducted my own research and watched all possible procedures so I am fully aware about the different procedures and recovery
What type of Info did other people get? Anything I need to know?

Once you have a date/nearer the time you will hear from the hospital with instructions about fasting etc. Once you're in the hospital they will tell you what medication you'll need post op and some general advice re recovery: "get lots of rest, don't lift anything heavy". If you have specific questions, make a list to take to the hospital and get them answered before surgery whist you're still alert.
Thanks for that. I have a date but just wondered if people have had the op explained and discussed with the consultant prior to an operation date. I have not had any discussion. I certainly will not be signing anything until the procedure has been explained and all my questions answered.
I week before the surgery I had a pre-op appointment to go over everything. He listed to my lungs, I had to give blood work and a Covid test the day before. I got a mailed package 3 weeks before surgery with lots of information and instructions. I didn’t find out the time of the surgery until the day before. Hope this helps. I ‘d call a few weeks before.
Have you at least been told what type of hysterectomy you are having? If you haven’t, I would contact them to ask. At least you can then concentrate on part of the research you have done.
