Anyone had a sigmoidoscopy?

Hi

I've just been told I need a sigmoidoscopy before my surgery? Ive been told by the secretary not my surgeon.

I've had the usual CT scans, MRI, been admitted because my ovarian cyst ruptured, but not been told I need one of these.

I thought I was waiting for a surgery date and had no idea I needed one.

Can anyone tell me if they had one, what exactly was it for? How did you find it? Etc.

Im across two different health trusts and communication is awful. So would really appreciate any feedback on these.

Thank you everyone.

Hi, I had a sigmoidoscopy before my last lot of surgery. It was to find out if I had any Endo adhesions inside my bowel. I drank the bowel prep I was given the day before, which clears you out. I refused to have the sedative that was offered and wish I had said yes, I can only recall it being painful once. It was uncomfortable, but the staff were great at putting me at ease. I watched what the camera could see on the monitor, it was a little bit strange. But it was soon over and done with and actually I realised it wasn’t worth worrying about so much. Good luck

I've had one and the prep is not ideal! Just make sure you're near a toilet and you've got comfy clothes on! But the procedure is over quite quickly. It was definitely less painful than a colonoscopy ( had that too!) You may feel sore and gassy afterwards! But it didn't last long. Good luck!
