Anybody had a sigmoidoscopy?

So I’ve posted on here a couple of times already about symptoms that I think sound like Endo, although trying to explain this to my doctor is like talking to a brick wall! So when I asked if she thinks it could be endometriosis her response was ‘ well do you think it’s that?! So she sent me for a sigmoidoscopy anyway, I agreed to this as another tick off of the list on tests they want you to do before more advanced things. (I was pretty sure before I went for it they would find nothing as I don’t think it’s my bowels). Anyway I had it done on Monday. Oh my god I did not expect the pain I experienced I even shouted a few times and I think I have a strong pain threshold! What I wanted to really know was has anybody else had this done and how did you feel couple of days after? As it seems to have worsened the original pain I was in, perhaps this is just to be expected but wondered if anyone in a similar position?

Sorry for the really long post and if this sounds stupid! But this forum has become my only way to talk about it as people understand on here how I am feeling! Thanks x

I had one earlier this year and it was horrendous!! Much worse than I imagined! They didn't find anything, I was convinced I'd got diverticulitis! It didn't worsen my original pain tho and I was ok after the gas had settled!

Yeah it was awful! People said to me oh it’s fine it’s just a little bit uncomfortable I thought it was horrendous! Could not concentrate on the questions they were asking me as I was just in pain! Would never have one done again put it that way!! Yeah I’m Day 3 after it now and I’m in worse pain then before!

Where is your pain? Could it be from the gas they inflate your bowel with? It took mine a few days to settle. Peppermint capsules or tea helps.

Well I had constant pain beforehand anyway but it’s across the the bottom of my back, my sides and my pelvic area. Just seems to have irritated it and made it slightly worse 🤔 suppose it could be the gas! Thanks x

I had one about 2 years ago and I was totally fine. I walked out of the hospital almost immediately after and went for pizza. Everyones recovery is a little different but you really shouldn't be experiencing pain after. Did they take any samples or do any cauterization?

I felt okay albeit a little overwhelmed straight after with the pain it caused me! I mean I’ve been in daily pain for almost 4 months now anyway so it’s not completely new but just feels worse I guess. Not too sure why! They took a couple of biopsies but other than that nothing, it was over and done with very quickly thankfully just strange. It almost seems like whatever is going on inside has been irritated and worsened it, just wanted to see if anybody else had a similar experience i guess. Thanks for the reply

Really sorry about your pain :( the scope really shouldn’t have been painful so it’s surprising! Make sure to follow up about it with your doctor and specialist :)
