Sigmoidoscopy and endometriosis

I finally had a sigmoidoscopy on Friday, 2 months after my laparoscopy I experienced bleeding out of my back passage and was referred for a sigmoidoscopy to see what was wrong. Due to covid-19 it was delayed but I finally had or done.

It was extremely painful and they didn't find anything concerning, however, the last 2 days I've been in agony and have started my period (which I haven't had since December due to my surgery and the mirena).

It must be linked somehow? I have already been re referred back to my gynaecologist as I've gotten worse since my laparoscopy but is this something I should mention to him?

Is it possible that its all linked even though they saw no endo on mu bowel during my laparoscopy or sigmoidoscopy.

Have any of you had anything similar?

Sounds like a link to me would defo tell gynae when you see them

Did they find or do anything at Lap......and was it a general gynae or specialist endo surgeon that did it?

endo isn't always picked up especially to an untrained eye or if more obvious things are present they normally gets dealt with first.

I've had a colonoscopy which didn't show anything yet 2nd lap showed bowel endo.....I think the colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy would only show endo if it had penetrated bowels I think they do these tests to rule out cancer or any abnormalities in the large bowel.

Keep a note of your symptoms and when they flare up it will come in handy when you get to gynae.

I hope you feel better soon

Ye he found/removed endo, it was stage 2 and not on bowel but was on my bladder.

I'll definitely keep note and tell my gynaecologist when I see them, hopefully it won't be too long, its been 8 months and I'm worse than before i had my laparoscopy!

I know that feeling had my laparoscopy in Feb and the endo symptoms and pain is unreal.

Had consultation in June and now waiting specialist endo surgeon for bowel op

Everything takes so long to begin with and covid is just making it more difficult to get treatment. I hope you get seen soon

I hope everything goes well for you and you don't get any more delays!

Definitely mention it to gyny. I had a normal colonoscopy which was agony and then dismissed by the general. Surgeon. I was referred by my gyny to a colorectal surgeon. He sent me for a mri with dye contrast and 2 spots of endo have shown up on my sigmoid colon and rectum. I also had significant bleeding around my cycle from my bum.

Ask your gyny if he works closely with a colorectal surgeon who has an interest in endo. I'm now waiting surgery.

Keep pushing you know your body better than anyone x

Hello.

Yes I’ve had two for rear bleeding and on both occasions they found nothing inside but excruciatingly painful.

When I’ve been operated on they’ve found my bowel obliterated by endometriosis and adhesions so dense they’d attached womb to bowel and pulled it out of place

So I definitely would say it can be related to endometriosis.

Best wishes xx
